  • Luxury yurts in the Extremadura countryside near Casas del Castañar
  • A 15-minute drive from Plasencia, overlooking the Sierra de Gredos
  • Swimming pool on site, plus private hot tub for each yurt
Mixing up a good dose of fresh air and stunning scenery with an equally generous amount of luxury is the approach at El Jardín de las Delizias, in the Extremadura countryside about 10 minutes’ drive from Casas del Castañar. Come along to this Valle del Jerte location and you’ll be staying at a lovely ecological farm that stretches out over 5200 square metres – that’s a whole lot of peaceful space to surround yourselves with. And views too? Yes indeed, looking out over the waters of Embalse de Plasencia with the peaks of the Sierra de Gredos forming a mountainous backdrop. Keen to see a bit more? There are lots of places nearby to get out for a hike or an off-road drive, taking in waterfalls, gorges and mountains – and the team on site can help you to sort other activities including canoeing, paddleboarding, guided walks or stargazing outings. If you’re after a less active time, hang out at the site’s open-air pool or ask about the various massages and yoga classes that can be arranged here. The luxury element of the place is easily visible with a quick look through the pics of the yurt where you’ll be staying – it’s a spacious and stylishly furnished setup with a double bed (made up for your arrival) and an ensuite shower room. A fridge, coffee maker and TV are supplied too, and there’s a splendid bonus in the form of a hot tub outside the yurt, where you can gaze up at the scenery by day or the stars by night. You’ll also be able to stare up at the sky through the pretty skylight in the yurt’s roof. Watching the stars while tucked up in bed – now that’s a luxury…

Local attractions

If you’d like to see some more of your surroundings, you might like to head out into the Garganta de los Infiernos nature reserve (25 minutes’ drive) or seek out local highlights like the Caozo waterfall (15 minutes) and the cascades at Garganta de Las Nogaleas (20 minutes). In fact there are several places around here to find waterfalls and lake views, but if you want to get into the water your best bet is to travel to the natural swimming pool La Camella (15 minutes). The team on site can also point you towards places to find canoe outings or paddleboarding (or yoga SUP if you fancy trying that). For a change from the rural scenery, try a trip to Plasencia (15 minutes), which has lots of varied Moorish, Renaissance and Gothic architecture to visit, plus plenty of places to try out the local cuisine.
