  • Accessible site with restaurant, swimming pool and kids' pool
What draws people to Villajoyosa, a little way south of Benidorm on the Mediterranean coast? Well, there’s plenty – the mild climate, the long beach, the pretty colourful seafront, the buzzy (but not too busy) atmosphere… and the small matter of a chocolate factory in town… There’s another good attraction in the form of Kampaoh Villajoyosa, a glamping site that’s part of a well-equipped campsite on the edge of town. Here you’ll be able to soak up all the fresh air and natural views that come with a camping holiday but without any need to bring or set up a tent – you’ll be staying in a spacious furnished tent with beds, bed linen and various handy extras provided. It’s all very peaceful here at the glamping area, with tents scattered among the trees and space to relax in the sun or shade. Activity is on hand when you want it, though, with a highlight being the outdoor pool, which is accessible for those with limited mobility and has a kids’ pool as well. A playground is on site for the kids too, along with a programme of entertainment and activities for them in the summer. There’s plenty more going on in town as well – it will take you 20 minutes or so to walk down to the town centre for shops, places to eat and things to do. Not that you have to go that far if you don’t want to, as the site has its own mini market and a bar/restaurant serving up top-notch Mediterranean cuisine. Other facilities include a launderette and wifi service, and the whole site is accessible for disabled guests.

Local attractions

Venture down into Villajoyosa to start with, for a stroll through the Old Town down to the seafront lined with colourfully painted houses. There’s a lovely long beach down here too, with palm trees and lovely views towards the mountains rising in the distance. Sweet-toothed visitors will also want to stop in at some of the town’s chocolate shops and the Valor Chocolate Museum, telling the story of cocoa and chocolate production. Little bit more adventure on the cards? There are hikes nearby in the Sierra Aitana mountains (half an hour’s drive), and activity centres in Villajoyosa can sort you out with days of scuba diving, canyoning and climbing. Heading a little further afield, you could take a day trip to Alicante (half an hour) to visit its museums, climb to the castle and graze your way through the Central Market. Alternatively, head towards Benidorm (15 minutes) for popular family attractions like Terra Mítica, Terra Natura and Aqua Natura.
