Campsites in Austria

20 bookable campsites in Austria Sorted by our favourites

Heaps and heaps of peaks along with piles of pretty high up land… slope off to an Austrian campsite for heady holidays among mountainous terrain.

Austria lies entirely within the Alps and almost 70 per cent of it is at an altitude of 500 metres or higher… it's sno surprise then that alpine skiing is the top sport in the country, at the ski resorts of Tyrol and Innsbruck, Lower Austria and the 700 or so kilometres or so of ski resorts around Styria. (If you yearn for other ways of plunging headfirst into snow, the likes of snowboarding, ski jumping and tobogganing can all be found around here too.)

On land and upright, camping in Austria can lead you to alpine hiking for the hardy, gentle riverside pedals along the Danube for the less so, and the thermal baths of Burgenland for the very much less so. Along with classical concerts in Vienna and Salzburg or sunbathing and snapping pics at the Austrian lake district to the country's north… all punctuated by liberal servings of kaffee und kuchen at any time of day or eve.

And when you want to slope off elsewhere to further your European trip? Germany and the Czech Republic are to Austria's north, Italy and Slovenia to the south, Switzerland to the west and Hungary and Slovakia to the east.
