General
- Quiet site in the Gastein valley with mountain views
- A 10-minute drive from thermal pools at Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein
- Spa area with three saunas and an outdoor swimming pool
What’s the difference between an infrared sauna, a bio sauna and a traditional Finnish sauna, and which one’s your favourite? An easy way to find out is to book a stay at Kur-Camping Erlengrund and make much time to sample each of its three saunas during your stay.
The Gastein valley, where this spa site is situated, is famed for its focus on wellness. If you need to de-stress, this is the place to come: spend some time in the area’s thermal pools, then take your pick from a wide range of massages and beauty treatments in the local villages Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein, each around a 10-minute drive away.
Fun times for kids can be had in the site playground, playing table tennis or bouncing around on the trampoline, followed by cooling off with a dip in the open-air pool. If the weather’s not so great, make yourselves comfy in the recreation room, which has books and board games as well as a TV.
In winter the area turns its attention to skiing and other winter sports – ski lifts are around five kilometres away and the site makes life easy for guests by providing a ski depot where you can leave skis and boots to dry while you warm up in one of the saunas.
A supermarket is a couple of minutes' walk away and it's a 20-minute walk to the nearest restaurant.

Local attractions
Whether you prefer to explore by bike or on foot there are enough trails around here to keep you busy for days.
A favourite is the Gasteiner Höhenweg, running from Bad Hofgastein through meadows and past waterfalls to crossing the Gadauner gorge via a series of illuminated tunnels. There are also some easy paths running from the site and some more challenging hiking routes requiring a bit of climbing; some of these trails are accessible in winter, so ask the site staff for advice.
In winter, ski lifts run from both of the local villages (each five kilometres away) and Sportgastein,15 kilometres away; a ski bus runs between the various resort areas and lifts. With 60 ski lifts nearby and over 200 kilometres of prepared pistes there’s something for every ability, and lessons are available at the village’s ski schools. Cross-country skiers have a further 90 kilometres of tracks to explore.
Spa facilities in the area include the family-friendly Alpentherme in Bad Hofgastein, which has a rafting slide, a multimedia dome and an outdoor area with volleyball court and playground. Felsentherme, in Bad Gastein, has a network of indoor and outdoor thermal pools where you can wallow with great views of the mountains of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
