The clue as to the location of this Carinthia site is very much in the name here – EuroParcs Worthersee is about 500 metres from the shore of the gorgeous Worthersee, with views out over the bright blue waters from various spots around the park. Not content with looking from afar? That's understandable – and easily fixable, as the park has its own access to the lake, for swims, launching your canoes or just sunbathing on the jetty. There may be mountain scenery all around but the waters here are usually pleasantly warm in summer – the sunny location means they warm up to a temperature of around 25 degrees in high season. Elsewhere around the lake, there are places to hire watersports kit, go for walks by the water or up into the mountains and some viewing platforms where you’ll get impressive views in reward for your climb. The location is also a handy one for visits to Villach and Klagenfurt (both within a half-hour drive), with your nearest town being Schiefling am See, a handy five minutes away and home to several shops, restaurants and services like banks. You don't have to head out to eat, though – there’s a restaurant on site serving up good breakfasts and traditional Carinthian dinners (alongside a vegetarian and vegan menu to cater for all guests). There’s fresh bread for sale every morning at the store, along with a sandwich service (order a day ahead and they’ll be ready for you to pick up from reception and take out for your picnics/hikes).

Disliked: Early closing of reception 6.30pm . Instructions were very basic, should have been more details f.e. where is the Chemical toilet, electrical plugs , waste water .... we managed to find at the end w/o that.

Liked: Deres badeområde var rigtig godt, super let at komme til selvom det gik ned og op ad bakke. Derudover var grundende store nok til både bil og telt kunne være der hvilket var rart. Deres pizzasted var også udemærket hvilket kan højne humøret på en regnvejrsdag.

Disliked: Der var store hjulspor på vores plads, hvilket gjorde at der samlede sig enorme mængder af vand, som resulterede i at vi sov i et stort mudderhul. Andre pladser med samme hjulspor var spærret af og taget ud af drift. Man burde gennemgå pladsen efter hver gæst.

Disliked: Disliked how close the pitches were to each other. Packed in like sardines. When we arrived the two pitches on either side had encroached on our pitch leaving us absolutely no room to sit outside our motorhome. We were meant to stay for 2 nights but only stayed one because of this!

Local attractions

There are lots of spots around the lake where you can get great views – but one of the best is surely that from the top of Pyramidenkogel, the world’s tallest wooden observation tower at 100 metres high. You can walk there in a couple of hours from the park, or drive in about 15 minutes. After you’ve soaked up the views from the top, come back down to earth on the 120-metre slide. Other spots to visit around the lake include the medieval Hochosterwitz Castle (40 minutes’ drive) and Landskron Castle (25 minutes), which has bird of prey shows and a troop of monkeys to meet. Walks through Zauberwald am Rauschelesee (15 minutes) are often popular with families, with hidden magical surprises to find behind the trees. As for urban days out, you may like to take a wander through the colourful streets of Villach (20 minutes) or head over to Klagenfurt (half an hour), which has a reptile zoo, a planetarium and the excellent Minimundus attraction as well as historic castles, churches and courtyards to wander through.
