Disliked 'wardens' coming to talk to us each evening which felt a bit militant
new facilities only open at weekends so had to use very dated showers
a lack of other facilities for the price we paid

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re very glad you enjoyed the peaceful location, the dog exercise area, and the local knowledge and support provided by our team. Creating a welcoming and helpful environment is something we take pride in, so it's great to hear that came across during your stay. Our walk rounds are intended as a friendly check-in to ensure guests feel welcome and have everything they need. Our wardens are really lovely and not at all militant, we receive lots of positive feedback about how friendly and helpful they are. The limited access to the new amenities during your stay was due to some final preparations before they open full time for the school holidays. Its personal preference, but many of our guests favour the smaller block that was open during your stay as it has private bathrooms and electric showers. We're currently investing in improvements to ensure everyone visiting us has the best possible experience.

La Viñuela, Malaga, Spain
Electric optional earth campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch (small)
Liked It is a beautiful spot with views right over La Vinuela lake and to the mountains beyond.
There is an onsite restaurant which served great tapas and many other dishes - reasonable prices for both food & drinks. There is another restaurant right next door which we didn't eat in but always seemed busy with Spanish families, which is always a great accolade.
The showers/toilets/washing up areas, etc. were always squeaky clean and cleaned more regularly than any other site we’ve stayed on. We couldn’t fault the facilities either - recycling, grey water, clean water (at your pitch), toilet emptying, washers & dryers, etc.
There is access to the lakeside from the campsite - perfect for walking yourself or the dog, cycling, etc. Electric bikes are recommended if you’re venturing out on the main roads, unless you’re fit (we’re not!).
Reception were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They also have a small selection of provisions if you run out of anything, but there are several supermarkets a short drive away.
Disliked The Wifi was touch and go but it wasn’t a problem for us with a mobile router.

Electric optional grass pitch
Liked Very friendly and helpful staff. Small but village with bars, boulangerie, market, Aldi, etc. peaceful location within easy reach of Calais and Lille, countryside and beautiful neighbouring villages.
Disliked We don’t have a problem with paying for use of the showers with tokens. Except when they’re the same ones as the free showers on other campsites, i.e. lukewarm and only stay on for a few seconds at a time.

Walnut electric grass pitch
Liked beautiful location - so peaceful with lovely scenery and free-roaming animals, yurts and even a shepherd hut. Plenty of room and well-spaced pitches
Disliked the washing up area was an outdoor, uncovered sink. The water never warmed up and was a trickle, so I took the dirty dishes back to our van and boiled the kettle to wash up there. There were signs up in the shower block telling people not to use the sinks for washing up, but I could see why people had, especially if they were camping and didn't have the option of using their own sink.

From the manager: Hi I just wanted to answer this with updated information When we are quiet in the winter I let people use the sink inside the shower block that has hot water, but through the season we stopped people using that kitchen as we had a bottle neck not suitable for covid times. Therefore we put a cold winter sink outside and hoped that guests would use a kettle and washing up in bowls the old fashioned way, however not everyone has this capability. Therefore I am in the process of making a sink that is accessible outside and has hot water for washing up, and is covered. We have done our best to adapt our facilities in ever changing circumstances with covid and other economy issues this has been challenging but most people have seen us through these teething problems and loved us as we are and for what we will be Thank you so much for pointing out the hut and space we are truly a lovely place but we are not for everyone Love to you and yours

Electric hardstanding touring pitch
Liked Beautiful spot, well-kept site, friendly staff, good shower block - clean and tidy.
Disliked The showers were an extra cost with tokens - not an issue in general, but they were push button showers anyway so it felt a bit unnecessary.
The pitches were very close together.

Bay View electric grass and gravel campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Great site - beautiful site, clean facilities, friendly staff, great pub and the hottest shower I've ever had on a campsite!
Disliked The regimented policy of only being permitted to park on the left-hand side of the pitch and facing a particular way. Especially when it says on the website that you get a sea view from every pitch.

Non-electric grass touring pitch
Liked We had great overnight stay at The Cross Keys. We especially loved the electric showers as the majority of campsites we've stayed at have had luke warm showers on a timer. For what we paid as well, this was particularly good value.
The pub was lovely too - it's a great CAMRA real ale pub with a large selection of ales and ciders in addition to what was on tap, served by really friendly bar staff. The beer garden was nice too.
For anybody looking for a local walk (which we did as we have a dog), the countryside is beautiful. Head down to the nearby cider orchards, with rows of trees stretching as far as the eye can see. There's also a fantastic weir beside them which people were swimming in when we were there.
We'd happily stay again - it was clean, comfortable, well-organised and great value for money.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch
Liked This is the third time we've stayed at Ralegh's Cross which says it all really. It's great value for money and a great friendly pub which serves pub grub made with locally-sourced produce. Also in a lovely spot on Exmoor - really peaceful.
Disliked The hooks in the showers which broke in September 2020 when we previously stayed here haven't been fixed. Only one of the three showers has anywhere to hang your towel/clothes, but only a minor niggle especially for the low campsite fee!

Disliked Attitude of some other campers who were out out when we had a barbeque and commented on it, even though it says on the website that bbqs are allowed.
