The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: goat enclosure

General

  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés

Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury.

That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime.

Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering).

Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates.

In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

This is a very well kept campsite, the size of pitches are very generous and the campsite is only a short walk along the canal to the lovely village Cropredy.
The campsite also has a convenience store and also a café where freshly cooked food is available throughout the day.
It’s a perfect campsite for a weekend away.

We liked that our motorhome was in the furthest corner of the field, away from the very busy centre of the main field as this was being set up for the music festival. Staff were very welcoming on arrival and we soon settled into a routine. We ate at The Brasenose Pub - delicious food - and walked along the canal into the village. We did have our daughter and grandchildren nearby and they thought the children's area great, especially the giant chess!

We loved the position of our tent on the furthest field and were glad to be further away from the main train line. The site was very busy being the weekend prior to the Cropredy Festival. Excellent children's facilities on the site were good and we enjoyed the walk into Cropredy. The only downside was that there are only 4 showers and with so many people around, they were busy!

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car.

Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes).

For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).

Must see

  • Compton Verney (10.6 miles)
  • Silverstone Circuit (12.8 miles)
  • Stowe Landscape Gardens (13.9 miles)

National Trust

  • Farnborough Hall (3.2 miles)
  • Canons Ashby (7.3 miles)
