General

  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés

Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury.

That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime.

Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering).

Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates.

In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

We like wild camping and this site although very well maintained is rustic enough feel youre with nature. There are upgrades going on, like hard standing tracks which is being done sympathetically.

    Dirty toilets
    No toilet roll

From the manager...

I’m sorry to hear this, but also a little confused. We have 4 campers on site, you being one, toilets rolls are all still full (they’re in the large dispensers in each cubicle) and toilets are still clean.
Did you use our winterised toilet block at the bottom of the field? No toilet roll or water or lights?? Or possible the disabled block which is coned off as we are working on them. Either way I’m sure if you’d used the toilet block that’s most accessible then this review can not be correct.

Lovely location and village, the site is open planned with minimal facilities so it was good we bought games and swing ball with us. The bouncy castle being free to use was a pleasant surprise. There is a hidden park in the village for the kids to enjoy, and a walk along the canal is lovely too.

Lovely quiet location. Clean toilet/shower block with plenty of hot water. Easy check-in, the reception was closed but there was a phone number which was answered straight away with a choice of pitches

    Disliked:

I booked an electric hard standing pitch but there didn't appear to be any hard standing pitches. However, our grass electric pitch was fine.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car.

Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes).

For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).

Must see

  • Compton Verney (10.6 miles)
  • Silverstone Circuit (12.8 miles)
  • Stowe Landscape Gardens (13.9 miles)

National Trust

  • Farnborough Hall (3.2 miles)
  • Canons Ashby (7.3 miles)
