  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

What customers say

This family-friendly campsite offers spacious pitches and a relaxed atmosphere, with animals like goats and birds proving popular with children. Facilities are generally clean, though some guests noted they are basic and could benefit from refurbishment. The site is well-located for canal walks and village access. While many enjoyed the amenities and friendly staff, noise from trains and occasional issues with cleanliness or facility availability were mentioned by a minority. Updates and improvements are ongoing.

10-amp electric grass pitch

Liked Easy access to and from the main road. Main field was clean. Welcome text with shop info etc was helpful. Liked the rustic feel of the out buildings. Goats were cute and looked very well looked after. Shop on site is handy. Heard the geese once over night and never heard the cockerel - so no issues there. Did hear the trains but not much after dark. Would have liked to have tried the pizzas but think we were a bit out of season for it.

Disliked Tap water was cold in the female toilets and hand drier did not work. Showers took a bit of tweaking to get temp right. A mop and bucket could do with being available for people to use to clean up after showering as someone had been in with their dog and left muddy prints everywhere (up to the dog owner to sort not the staff though).

Liked Relaxing, large pitch, such a wonderful place to stay. Loved the goat's. Yet not for us personally. Difficult to find an navigate with our 6 meter motorhome.

Disliked No local shop apparently it's been closed for over a year.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked A large site with gravel areas for parking campervan. Toilets were clean but I can’t comment on showers as I didn’t use them. Little paddock with goats and 2 large bird aviaries (covered during my stay for winter). It wasn’t busy when I visited but I would imagine it gets busier during warmer months. The canal towpath is a few minutes walk from the site and I enjoyed a few nice walks. The manager/ owner answered my calls and communicated well.

6-amp electric grass pitch

Liked The goats and the local pubs. Summer with bar open and bands on may be good.

Disliked The dirty dated toilets, water logged fields, the thought of bringing our heavy caravan onto one of the tourer pitches in the condition they were in. Didn't dare use the shower. Cockeral woke us at 4.20 am and if he stayed quiet there was always the geese in the field to take off and let you know it, or the woodpecker hammering the trees in the neighbouring field. Overall will not return as only checking out sites for caravaning this year.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We prefer the description of quirky for our toilets. However dirty - they certainly weren't - as other reviews state for the same dates as your stay.

As for complaint about animals in the countryside, whilst staying at a campsite with the name farm, not too sure how to respond to that?

Very open and quiet facilities not the most reliable but a good site

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Spacious pitches and quiet

Disliked Showers either scolding hot or ice cold, shop on site was not open for our entire stay and field got very muddy

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: The showers are electric. Rather than turning to extreme temps, slowly adjust the temperature.

Shop was open on request, as stated in your arrival text. Just not viable to staff for a small number of guests.

And yes grass plus rain plus driving does create mud, however I only sold hardstanding pitches so no reason for those who did go against instructions to drive on the grass.

10-amp electric grass pitch

Liked Good location

Disliked Train track right next to the site along with a Cockerel that starting well before dawn.
Site not fully open in March, so no shop, bar or cafe which was fine.
Toilets and showers are a little out dated and not regularly cleaned. No bench/stool or hooks for your clothes.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are in the countryside and the train line should not be a surprise if you read our site description, most have no issue from this. As for facilities, they are cleaned regularly, obviously less when only a few on site otherwise we'd be running at a loss to pay for unnecessary cleaning.

Good site, particularly liked hardstanding as had rained previously

Liked Lovely site . Easy check in. Gravel pitch was very much appreciated as it’s been so wet. Quiet.
Toilet block warm and clean despite the mud everywhere. Plots are spacious. WiFi was an additional bonus for teenagers.

Liked Everything, easily accessible. Everything explained before arrival. Hook ups all great. We are staying in Feb but even the weather didn’t stop us! They have cute goats the kids loved to feed and also a lovely park for them to play in.

We will definitely be back in summer.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
