General

  • Small and friendly pub site under three miles from Cheddar
  • Extensive range of home-cooked food including veggie and gluten-free
  • On the bus route to Cheddar and Wells

If friendly pubs, small sites and a peaceful kid-free vibe are the things that have you stoked on holiday, you'll like The Rodney Stoke Caravan and Camping Park, a small and friendly site behind the Rodney Stoke Inn near Cheddar and Wells.

And if you like to have heaps of choice for your dinner dishes, this is also the place for you: the pub serves a proper mix of food from an extensive a la carte menu. For doing your own dinner, barbecues and self-contained firepits are allowed on site.

It's not far from Cheddar and Wells; if you fancy having a pint in either, leave the car at base and take the bus running to both that leaves close by.

After pints and plates of food it's pleasing to hear that there's a handy bathroom block out by the pitches, upgraded for the 2020 season with toilets and showers.

The Rodney Stoke welcomes dogs as long as they're well-behaved, but no humans under 16, please.

Please note

A charge of £0.50 applies for the use of the shower.

Guests under the age of 16 are not allowed on site.

A cable measuring at least 10 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Minimum spacing of 2 metres between pitches.

Coronavirus update: the pub is not open on Mondays. Opening hours on other days are 12-2.30pm and 6pm-8.30pm.

Another lovely stay at Rodney Stoke despite the weather. Tom was brilliant as always, really friendly and helped us to physically push our Basecamp into the pitch! All very COVID compliant and the new facilities are great and very clean. Love local walks accessible from the campsite. Many thanks for another fab stay and we’ll be back!

not covid aware, they had alcohol free hand gel for customers to use, I pointed this out that it was not any use against covid, and the manager said he didn't really believe in covid and that their was no proof people die from it. How can someone like that be in charge of keeping guest safe. Pitches are very very small on the hard standing so you where stepping out on wet muddy slippery grass. then he moaned that we drove over the corner of the grass, had the pitches been of normal size we would not have needed to go on the grass.
no social distancing between pitches. toilet block although new and looks fab on first appearances if you look in the shower cubicles they have black mould all round the edges.
was not informed you need to purchase a token either for the shower, only found out once hubby was in them at 7.30 Sunday morning not going to go and knock on managers caravan to purchase a token. so the campsite was awful if I am honest. I don't not normally do review's but do feel strongly about having the wrong hand gel out for guest to use, not worth having it at all. I must say though we went to the pub which is not owed by the campsite and they where fantastic staff and food.

From the manager...

Hi, so pleased you stayed it enlightened my life with your knowledge of bacteria. The other thing is, because you were so observant about everything else, you seem to have neglected to be observant about the site rules on entry, but I suppose any one can make a mistake. I don't want your type on this beautiful site go to the Ritz it will be more fitting to your requirements, especially as you insisted being called by your double barrelled name. Tally Ho Old Chap.

I am very surprised to read this comment Lee. You chose the pitch you wanted, and sorry but I can't control the weather for you when you stay. If only you had read the notices on the shower block wall. You can stay where ever you want next time because we will be full here. Tom 🙄

Smashing Cheddar and its gorge, caves, cheese and ciders is less than three miles away and easy to get to by car; the Wookey Hole Caves are about three and a half miles in the other direction.

Also popular nearby is the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, around 14 miles away: have a day here around the town museum, Helicopter Museum, aquarium and Grand Pier, or to take a paddle steamer on a day trip along the Severn Estuary or Bristol Channel.

Within 30 miles, history and city fans can get to the old areas of Bristol and Taunton as well as historic and lovely Bath for its spas, Roman remains, Jane Austen connections and well-regarded festivals.
