General

  • Family-friendly and family-run site with walks down to the bay
  • 27 peaceful acres a couple of miles from Woolacombe
  • Excellent farm shop, tearoom and e-bike and bike hire

Traditional Devon farm camping is the name of the game at family-owned and run Lee Meadow farm a couple of miles from the sands and surf of Woolacombe, set among 27 acres with woodland views on one site and Devon hills to the other, and with views of the Bristol Channel towards Wales.

There's a farm shop here too, selling free-range eggs from the farm's hens alongside stacks of products made fresh on site, and a site tearoom for cream teas before (and after) walks from the site down to Lee Bay through Fuschia Valley.

Easy walks and bike rides are easy to access straight from the farm, and the safe cycling of the former Ilfracombe Branch Line is just at the end of the farm lane. There's heaps of space on site too for kids to run about – or they could trot along to meet the Lee Valley piglets as well as lambs in the spring.

Facilities are well kept and include free hot showers, flush toilets and washing-up sinks; a disabled shower and toilet facilities plus a baby changing area and a token-operated hairdryer were added in 2017. E-bike and cycle hire is available on site.

And finally, the two pubs within walking distance selling fine ales, cider and food are a fave with the locals – always a good sign for pubs…

A nice rural farm campsite with a lovely cafe and shop 17/09/2018

Lee Meadow Farm is a lovely rural working farm campsite offering large open pitches. We had a choice of pitches because there were only four other campers staying so we were nicely spread out. The farm shop and cafe were the best part for us and we enjoyed a superb cooked breakfast and great coffee both mornings. The local produce is also a nice touch.

    Disliked:

The bathrooms were functional but not always clean during our stay which was disappointing given the few campers staying. We disliked the fact that the bathrooms dont have a door to the main entrance to them and on a wet and very windy weakend this made taking a shower really cold. The on/ off buttons for both showers and taps need to be timed for a fraction longer as trying to wash hair or even clean teeth was a challenge with how they are currently set up. The outside washing up fasclities were always dirty and could do with some kind of roof cover as again washing up in windy very wet conditions was not fun.

From the manager...

We are sorry it was wet and windy when you stayed with us we pride ourselves on our clean site but can help the weather making things a little muddy on the floors a little sad you coundnt see though the bad weather

Lovely site, clean facilities and great to use as a base. 16/09/2018

Lots of space to pitch. Willow hedges have been grown to separate the field and offer a coastal breeze protection and gave us a little privacy. Well stocked farm shop. The toilet and shower blocks are very clean and roomy and a nice bit of luxury to have a hairdryer available. Fire pit was fun and the wood lasted 2 nights! One little ginger farm cat was especially friendly and we had a little friend to stroke on our laps in the evenings. We practically had the place to ourselves so cannot comment on how the site stands up during busy times but my daughter loved the space to run around. She’s an early riser so we were able to pitch far away enough from the other campers/caravans so as not to disturb them.

    Disliked:

A minor quibble but I thought it a shame that we only had access to freeze our iceblocks during the shop’s opening times and we’d often be back to the campsite after 5pm so too late to pick them up.

From the manager...

So glad you enjoyed your stay hope to see you again :-)

Location, really easy for various trips and pretty much right on the cycle path, choice of pitches, and landscaping of site with the willow wind breaks! Farm shop on site, general cleanliness, and extra bits available such as fire baskets and tables...

    Disliked:

Needs a better boiler - water often tepid at best. Not enough sinks in the washrooms - only 2 , wouldn’t have liked to be there at busy times, and not enough countertop space by the sinks - very squashed and made things tricky. A door on the washrooms also would have made things warmer and just simple things like more hooks in the showers for clothes and towels etc. Could have been fabulous with some simple additions.

From the manager...

glad you liked our site … the water system is new this year you need to press the button a few times at quieter periods :-)

Lee Meadow is lovely. The facilities are new and clean and well thought out. Love the washing-up area. There is plenty of space with unmarked pitches and not too many rules. The shop is really well-stocked, excellent quality and reasonable prices. The cafe is delicious and we had a marvellous time. If you like your camping pitches unmarked, having fires and going free-range living, this is the place for you. Thank you Lee Meadow Campsite. We very much hope to be back one day.

Seven miles of golden sand beaches, surfing, diving, kayaking and shore and boat fishing are all within a few minutes' drive of the farm; on land, mountain biking, hiking, golf, horse riding and quad biking are all available locally.

Within a 10-minute drive are Croyde, Putsborough, Saunton Sands and Braunton Burrows, the biggest sand dune system in the UK and part of North Devon's Biosphere Reserve, Britain's first.

The small fishing villages of Clovelly, Lynton and Lynmouth are also nearby, as are the dozens of old villages, scenic coastal walks, moorland and rivers of Exmoor National Park, worth at least a couple of days for its 620 or so miles of footpaths and bridleways, its cycle paths, its climbing, sea fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
