General

  • Family-friendly and family-run site with walks down to the bay
  • 27 peaceful acres a couple of miles from Woolacombe
  • Excellent farm shop, tearoom and e-bike and bike hire

Traditional Devon farm camping is the name of the game at family-owned and run Lee Meadow farm a couple of miles from the sands and surf of Woolacombe, set among 27 acres with woodland views on one site and Devon hills to the other, and with views of the Bristol Channel towards Wales.

There's a farm shop here too, selling free-range eggs from the farm's hens alongside stacks of products made fresh on site, and a site tearoom for cream teas before (and after) walks from the site down to Lee Bay through Fuschia Valley.

Easy walks and bike rides are easy to access straight from the farm, and the safe cycling of the former Ilfracombe Branch Line is just at the end of the farm lane. There's heaps of space on site too for kids to run about – or they could trot along to meet the Lee Valley piglets as well as lambs in the spring.

Facilities are well kept and include free hot showers, flush toilets and washing-up sinks; a disabled shower and toilet facilities plus a baby changing area and a token-operated hairdryer were added in 2017. E-bike and cycle hire is available on site.

And finally, the two pubs within walking distance selling fine ales, cider and food are a fave with the locals – always a good sign for pubs…

What a lovely place. Facilities were good and staff were nice.

    Disliked:

We stayed for 4 nights and on day two another tent appeared at the side of ours! Normally this would be fine however our guide ropes were over lapping and there was no thought for personal space from the other people. It was where we had been putting the car. I think a little more could be done to make sure that there is a minimum distance between tents, unless it's a group that you are camping with.

Fantastic site, definitely best we have ever stayed at for facilities and cleanliness and has rekindled our love for camping! Shower and toilet blocks were just right - never a queue and kept immaculate, washing up area more than adequate and the onsite farm shop with fresh produce, breakfast and lunch goods plus stone baked pizzas was fab. The pitches were spacious and with great views, so even with everything thought of - facilities to charge phones, freeze ice packs, hire bikes, campfires and picnic tables and wash wetsuits, the site still managed to feel completely like real camping.
The owners were super friendly and helpful - will definitely be back!

Local attractions

Seven miles of golden sand beaches, surfing, diving, kayaking and shore and boat fishing are all within a few minutes' drive of the farm; on land, mountain biking, hiking, golf, horse riding and quad biking are all available locally.

Within a 10-minute drive are Croyde, Putsborough, Saunton Sands and Braunton Burrows, the biggest sand dune system in the UK and part of North Devon's Biosphere Reserve, Britain's first.

The dunes are also a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a national nature reserve and a Special Area of Conservation for their 400+ species of plant: take a picnic of Lee Meadow Farm produce and see how many you can spot.

The small fishing villages of Clovelly, Lynton and Lynmouth are also nearby, as are the dozens of old villages, scenic coastal walks, moorland and rivers of Exmoor National Park, worth at least a couple of days for its 620 or so miles of footpaths and bridleways, its cycle paths, its climbing, sea fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
