Peaceful!

General

  • Secluded, peaceful park in a rural setting a few miles from Praa Sands
  • Within 30 minutes' drive of Land's End, the Eden Project and Falmouth
  • Two-acre dog exercise area, nature trail, games field and play barn

Avoid the madding crowds on your summer sojourn to Cornwall and stay at this green, secluded and peaceful park instead: Polladras Holiday Park has had previous guests waxing lyrical about its peace, its quiet and its lovely location 15 minutes' drive from Helston and pretty Porthleven harbour.

The park is in a rural setting four miles from the beaches of Cornwall’s south coast and within easy reach of coastal and countryside walks. It’s in a top spot too for south-west Cornwall explores with Penzance, the Lizard Peninsula and Land’s End no more than half an hour’s drive away. Yet blissful peace will always be yours when you potter back to pitch, as family-friendly Polladras is set over nine acres and has no noisy bar, clubhouse or evening entertainment.

This is a place that gives a good nod to eco-friendly aspects: low wattage bulbs are used throughout and recycling is paramount. Heaps of info is displayed about non-car ways of getting around the local area, in the form of bus timetables on display and details of walks from the park given to all guests, and the well thought-out nature trail leads to a games field with play barn, football goals and a climbing frame to wrestle the kids away from their consoles.

Dogs are welcome, and the two-acre exercise area on the edge of the park should keep Fido pretty stress-free too...

It was quiet but had enough facilities to be comfortable. Very clean site and friendly staff who couldn’t do enough. Great for location and National Trust site nearby.

    Disliked:

Needed to have all provisions with us as not much nearby no pubs, shops or garages but a Post Office in Godolphin Cross. Ok if you have transport but we had a Motorhome and quite a narrow lane getting in and out of site.

Unable to complete this box as I can’t think of anything positive to say unfortunately.

    Disliked:

Absolutely foul man running this site. If you are unfortunate enough to encounter him, you will probably have your holiday ruined. Rude, obnoxious and arrogant small man syndrome owner. When dealing with his wife she was pleasant but in his company she deferred to his tirade. I can only sympathise with what her life must be like.

There are dead bugs all over the shower room, which is separate to the toilets which is frustrating, and cold in there. Very basic and the room to change in the shower is tight.

The laundry room is token operated which you have to get in exchange for coins in the office. I only realised that after getting to the room just after 7pm. Knowing the office hours were 5-7pm I was about to head back to the van when I saw the proprietor sat at her desk with the light on in the office. I approached and as I did heard the man begin a tirade about why I didn’t come earlier. At this point I apologised for the lateness (only 7.20pm) and if I could have a token for the laundry that would be great when he gave me both barrels. His wife then intervened with him to say I was already staying there, and he had confused me for a party which had just turned up. Instead of changing his tone and apologising properly he gruffly said “for that I apologise” and proceeded to give me more angry tones and aggression and slammed the coins down. I have never been so rudely treated and suggest that if you cannot abide people then you really shouldn’t work in an industry where you have to deal with them.

I have seen other reviews where he has been unpleasant to people and also saw that he’d been rude to the people who had arrived at 7pm - hoping to get a pitch for the night. If you are so angry about having customers arrive, I suggest another career option might be wise.

I for one will never return, and implore others to avoid in order to preserve their holiday. No one wants to end up in tears or their partners to. The dryer shrunk our clothes in the end. Not a good outcome all round!

Local attractions

Within half an hour or less you’ll reach most of the main highlights of south-west Cornwall as well as many beyond: the Eden Project, Flambards Theme Park, St Ives, Falmouth and the gardens of Glendurgan, Trebah and Trewithian are all close by, and the town of Helston, Cornwall’s second oldest (after Marazion), is three miles from the park.

Stunning beaches are all around: Praa Sands 10 minutes’ drive away; Sennen Cove and its consistent waves for surf, and Porthleven, Pollurian and Mullion for fishing, more watersporting and rockpooling.

From Porthkerris beach, towards Falmouth, you can learn to dive and look for the shore’s shipwrecks, while Kennack Sands and Kynance towards the Lizard are the ones to take the paintbox to. Newquay and the famed surf beaches of Cornwall’s north coast are within seven miles.

For walkies, take to the countryside around Lower Polladras using the park guides, or have some gorgeously scenic strolls along the South West Coast Path to Mullion, Marazion, Mousehole or Penzance.

On the north coast, try the eight-mile hike from Portreath to Godrevy, stopping off for blackberry ice cream or apple cake and clotted cream at the famed Hells Mouth café along the way.
