General

  • Peaceful family-friendly site in East Sussex
  • 10 mins from site of Battle of Hastings; 15 mins from Hastings town
  • Five minutes from Sussex vineyards

Planning your getaway doesn’t have to feel like launching a military campaign – at Meadowview Park, a peaceful and secluded site less than 10 minutes from the town of Battle in East Sussex, it’s a breeze.

This part of Sussex is 1066 country, so diving into the history of the battle that changed the course of England is a must – at the site of the world-famous Battle of Hastings, less than 10 minutes’ drive from Meadowview, explore the ruins of an abbey built by William the Conqueror, follow the sculpture trail, visit the gathehouse exhibition and climb to the abbey’s roof for views over the battlefield.

There are plenty of pleasant walks in the area around Meadowview, so bring Rex along and he can have a break too – an on-site dog walk and exercise area will keep him fit on low-key days.

When you’re feeling peckish, fire up the barbecue or get that campfire burning to sort dinner. You can get all the essentials in Hastings, 15 minutes from the site, or head to one of the restaurants within 10 minutes of Meadowview.

Wash down dinner with a drink at the pub in Sedlescombe, 15 minutes' walk away, and grab sweets and ice-cream for dessert at the small shop on site.

Please note

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

A charge of £0.20 applies for the use of the shower.

    The pitch was good.
    Clean facilities.

    Disliked:

    The language used in communication.
In the park site rules point tree it says:
    3. All dogs on leads & pick up s**t
These kind of communications where all over the place. In stead of : No entry, private they use Private: Keep out!
Also threats like: if your dog is not kept on a lead we will remove you from the site immediately
I think this is not suitable if you want to have a good customer service.
The lady that welcomed us at arrival was grumpy and didn’t make us feel very welcome.

We stayed for three nights, I would recomend hard standing pitch as grass pitch is on slope . There are six shower rooms these include toilets which I found very spacious clean ( 20p for shower but plenty time for shower) you would need transport for getting around area as bus service minimal. It was nice and quite and you can go nice walk to village. The staff were very friendly and very helpful.

Great campsite for tourers .Stayed over the easter weekend. Facility exceptionally clean . Great power showers (20p) with loads of room to get changed etc.Owners very friendly and very helpful on advice on local food places to go etc.Great location to explore the coast , Rye,Hastings all close by.Battle with its 1066 history not to be missed .Also don't miss out a trip to Pett level and Fairlight, great place to chill out with a picnic and spectacular views across the channel.
No lawn mowers to interrupt the piece and quite if you want to chill out around your van which we notice this happening on club sites so often .
Would we stay again ? most definitely
Easy to enter the site ,very secure with keypad operated barrier and plenty of cctv .

    Disliked:

A little road noise during the day as its close to a main road, but don't let this put you off .as the trees get full bloom this will dampen the noise.
    Other dislikes NONE

Local attractions

You don’t have to go far from Meadowview to get your fill of sightseeing. The coastal town of Hastings is a 15-minute drive from the site – explore the streets of the Old Town, visit the museums and the ruins of the 11th-century Hastings Castle, climb to the skies on the East Hill Cliff Railway funicular or dive below the ground at St Clements Caves.

Not all of the stately homes near Meadowview are in ruins, and some have interesting literary links: the Georgian Lamb House in Rye was home to Henry James, Bateman’s in Burwash is where Rudyard Kipling lived until his death, and Monk’s House, an hour away, was the retreat of Virginia Woolf. Away from novelists, the spectacular 14th-century moated castles of Bodiam and Scotney are both within half an hour of the site.

There’s more to this part of the country than history and it might even surprise you. When you think of wine regions, you probably think of France, Italy and Chile – well, now you can add Sussex to that mental list… Grab your sober buddy and head for tours and tastings at Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard or Carr Taylor Wines, both within five minutes of Meadowview, or Kingscote Estate, Court Garden Vineyard, Ridgeview Winery or Bluebell Vineyard, all around an hour away.

For more kid-friendly activities, head to the aquarium in Hastings or join in Smugglers Adventure at St Clements Cave.
