  • Dog-friendly site on a fifth-generation family farm near Kaikōura
  • Walk to the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway and Kaikoura Seal Colony
  • Beach and seafood restaurant just a five minutes’ walk away
Spying with seals, whale watching and tucking into seafood… that’s a little taste of what’s in store on a visit to The Point Campsite. Based on a fifth-generation family farm on the Kaikōura Peninsula, this is a dog-friendly back to basics site in an excellent spot for all things coastal scenery and wildlife… Walk right from the peaceful grounds and onto the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway, which passes by the South Bay Reserve – it’s steep in parts, but overall, it's a relatively easy walk with spectacular views of the ocean, coast and mountains (a camera is an essential). The Kaikoura Seal Colony can be viewed just 20 minutes’ walk down the trail and in the other direction, it’s 40 minutes’ walk to get to Kaikoura Beach (40 minutes). There’s a seafood barbecue restaurant alongside Jimmy Armers beach, five minutes’ walk away, and many more dining options in Kaikōura – just what you need after a busy day on the trail. The site really does have an excellent location for relaxation and adventure, with spectacular scenery, friendly local hospitality, great bars and eateries nearby and some great New Zealand wildlife experiences. The site looks out over the coast and mountains and it’s right across from the beach – what else could you need from a back to basics site set in peaceful grounds? Well, maybe the true Kiwi experience of attending one of the local sheep shearing shows, according to the site owners.

Liked: This was our VERY first stop in a New Zealand campsite and what an introduction. Loved the honesty box system but the location, looking out over the ocean, was sensational. It didn’t matter that it rained all night!!! Weren’t expecting a toilet so that was welcome- although , campers, please note there are proper toilet facilities a little further up the road at the seal watching area (kaikura peninsula). Thanks for our introduction to camping at the ripe ages of 71 and 72!!!

    Disliked: All good!

Disliked: We were lucky to get a level pitch but some of those who arrived later struggled.
