  • Peaceful tourer site with alpine views 10 minutes’ drive from Belluno
  • Vajont Dam 25 minutes’ drive; Cortina and Venice both around an hour
  • Panoramic terraced restaurant; two fishing lakes; livestock on site
Mountain scenery, fishing lakes, wildlife on site and regional cooking in the restaurant – it’s all waiting for you at Azienda Agricola Sponga Giancarlo, set in Veneto farmland 10 minutes’ drive from Belluno. With Mount Serva as a backdrop and the Dolomite foothills 25 minutes by car, the hardstanding and gravel campervan pitches at this tourer site really do have spectacular, 360-degree alpine views. While staying on site, anglers can fish for trout and sturgeon on the two lakes (it’s strictly no-kill and a small fee applies), or try their luck casting along the banks of the River Piave. One-on-one tuition is available for kids and anyone else looking to hone their skills. There are enough resident animals to keep even the most demanding of wildlife-loving kids happy: the site owners are happy to introduce you to their organically fed wild boar, pigs, deer, goats, sheep, rabbits and geese. Your catering needs are all taken care of too, with fresh and seasonal local produce featuring on a menu of traditional dishes in the restaurant, where you can also sit outside, with an espresso or red wine in hand, to soak in the mountain vistas. Facilities at the campsite include a rest area with space for loading and unloading your gear, plus showers and electric hook-ups. It’s also easy to access, being only 10 minutes’ drive from the Belluno exit of the A27 motorway.

Local attractions

When you’re holidaying in winter, Cortina d’Ampezzo (about an hour’s drive) is snow sports-central, being hub of the vast Dolomiti Superski area with runs from scarily black to gentle slopes for beginners. Summertime visitors can walk in lush green meadows with Lake Santa Croce views at Nevegal (20 minutes), follow challenging trails up to Col Visentin (an hour and 10 minutes) or take family jaunts around the reservoir at Vajont Dam (25 minutes). When you fancy a change of scenery, there are several lovely towns to investigate. The historic centre of Belluno (10 minutes) is packed with medieval and Renaissance-style palazzos and churches, while Feltre (40 minutes) is an Insta-friendly hill town prettily arranged around landmark Alboino Castle. Gorgeous Treviso (55 minutes) is a mini-Venice with a maze of canals, 15th-century defence walls and an impressive cathedral with a white-colonnaded facade. If you’re itching to see the real thing, then the breathtaking canals, palaces and museums of Venice itself are just over an hour’s drive away.
