  • On the Rittner plateau with gorgeous views of the Dolomites
  • Five minutes' drive to Ritten Horn cable car; Bolzano 25 minutes
  • Natural swimming pool on site, plus indoor/outdoor play areas
The scenery around SchartnerAlm is simply stunning – wherever you look, you’ll be gazing up at the Sciliar and the western Dolomites. This is a fabulous location indeed, on the Rittner plateau just over a kilometre from the shops and cafés of Klobenstein. Getting out to explore your mountainous surroundings is easily done here – the site is about four kilometres from the Ritter Horn cable car, with a bus stop just outside the site for easy jaunts by public transport. E-bikes can be rented on site if you’d rather explore under your own steam, and there are plenty of places around for hikes in summer or skiing in winter. Have a chat with the reception staff and they’ll help you acquire a Ritten Card, which gives you free entry to various museums and access to South Tyrol public transport. It’s pretty easy to while away some time on site as well – the place has its own natural (unheated) bathing pond, a sunbathing lawn (with sun loungers) and a playground where the kids can run around. Don’t worry if it’s not outdoor weather – there’s also a large indoor playroom where kids can entertain themselves with board games and table football. Other facilities have been well thought out, too – guests have access to wifi throughout the site, a laundry area and a small food shop with local goodies. For other foodie needs, you can try local villages or head into Bolzano, 25 minutes’ drive away.

Electric optional gravel and earth touring pitch

Liked: Liked absolutely everything. I work on camp sites in the UK and live in my motor home full time and I have to say this site is THE best site I have ever stayed at. The views - to die for , location - unbelievable. Fitton card which gives you FREE access to buses , light railway and the cable card to Bolzano and Ritten Horn , so much to do . I originally booked two nights and ended up staying for four and was sad to actually leave . The facilities for toilets , showers etc are the best I’ve seen and used. Even the grey waste has a flush and rinse system , amazing clean . Fantastic bar and pizzeria if you don’t fancy cooking and even fine dining too . All the staff are amazing and helpful. Well worth going to - highly recommend x

It is not advisable to travel via Barbian/Lengstein with a larger mobile home or caravan, as some of the roads are only single lane. Take the exit at Bozen Nord, then follow signs to Ritter Horn.

Local attractions

This is a spectacularly scenic area to visit, and there are several ways to explore. One of the best ways to get a good overview of the mountainous terrain is to take a cable car ride – from the Ritten Horn base station (five minutes’ drive) or the Renon one (10 minutes). Either way, you’ll be treated to some great views as you head up to the hiking trails at the top. Back down at ground level, you may like to take a visit to see the unusual geological formations at Erdpyramiden Oberbozen (15 minutes) or the Barbiano waterfall (20 minutes). There are other ways to see the scenery too, including horse riding from Maneggio Unterlanzin (35 minutes) and spectacular rounds of golf at Golfclub St. Vigil Seis (40 minutes). There’s some great architecture around too – places to visit nearby include Runkelstein Castle (half an hour) and Prösels Castle (35 minutes) as well as Bolzano (25 minutes), which is home to a cathedral and the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology. A stop at Loacker winery (15 minutes) is a good idea too, for a tour and a taste of the local wine.
