With direct access to a private sandy beach (equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers) and spectacular views (especially at sunset) of the Aeolian Islands in the middle of the Tyrrhenian Sea, peaceful Villaggio Camping La Ginestra certainly has a lot going for it. This family- and dog-friendly structure is a 10-minute drive from the village of Nicotera Marina, where seafood eateries, pizza places and ice-cream parlours dot the palm tree-lined seafront and the narrow streets inland. Can’t face the idea of driving in the Calabrian summer heat? No worries: the on-site restaurant prepares traditional regional dishes and delicious wood-oven pizzas. And if you insist on cooking while on holiday (why, though?), the on-site grocery shop sells all basic necessities, plus a range of local products. It’s not all about eating when you’re here – though food certainly plays a big part of any Italian holiday. There are plenty of active pursuits to be had on site, with a large pool and a children’s pool, plus a tennis court, a soccer pitch, table tennis and a pétanque court. It’s also possible to book cruises to the Aeolian Islands and other excursions directly at reception. Evenings are lively, too, with musical entertainment, dancing soirées and film showings for all age groups. Large tree-shaded pitches come with electric hook-up and water points; there is also a toilet block and hot showers.

Local attractions

If you want to catch a glimpse of Sicily during your Calabrian holiday, drive to Scilla (35 minutes), where you can see the Strait of Messina and the coast of Italy’s largest island. One of the best spots for views is Castello Ruffo, or take a stroll along the pleasure harbour to the Belvedere dei Faraglioni. Carved out of a rocky cliff, Church Piedigrotta in Pizzo Calabro (35 minutes) enchants with its multitude of sculptures portraying scenes from the Scriptures. In town, Castello Murat is a 15th-century stronghold overlooking the beach. Renowned for its production of sweet red onions, the resort of Tropea (55 minutes) perches dramatically on rocky cliffs overlooking the sea and sandy beaches. The Santuario di Santa Maria dell’Isola di Tropea, on a craggy, vegetation-covered spur jutting out into the sea, dates back from the Middle Ages and has splendid views of the coast and the town.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Please pick any available pitch on arrival.
The site will send you further check-in information 1 day(s) before your arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.

Extras

Motorbike(s) can be brought instead of the car(s) included.

General

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
