  • Peaceful naturist-friendly retreat with accommodation on site
  • In the Sturgeon Valley, a 25-minute drive from central Edmonton
  • Proper beds and a propane barbecue for each unit
Come along to stay at Ravens’ Valley Nature Retreat and you’ll really be able to immerse yourselves in full-on nature – this Alberta park is in a scenic valley just next to the Sturgeon river, with a pond, creek and nature trails. That setting means lots of wildlife to hang out with, too – you may well spot deer and rabbits, or be serenaded by the sounds of owls and coyotes into the night. All of this adds up to a most peaceful and scenic place to stay – it’s probably hard to believe you’re only about 25 minutes’ drive away from central Edmonton. The vibe here is very much one of traditional camping, with guests encouraged to enjoy activities like lawn games, ghost stories, rock painting, fireside singalongs and outdoor cooking. It's also a naturist-friendly place, so you're welcome to cast your clothes off should you wish (although it's in no way mandatory…) The accommodation, however, is certainly a step up from your standard tent – you’ll be staying in well-equipped units that all have proper beds and lanterns. Outside, each unit has a barbecue with propane for sorting those open-air meals (with food supplies available at shops 10 minutes’ drive away in St Albert or the area’s various pick-your-own berry farms and local shops). Fishing, golf, nature walks, cross-country skiing and snowmobile rides are some of the ways to fill your days around these parts, or you could head down to Edmonton for shopping, festivals and museums.

Local attractions

This is a particularly good place to stay if you’re into golf – there are several courses in the area to try out, with Wildman Disc Golf Course (20 minutes’ drive) also close by if you’d like to try out something a bit different. In winter you’ll want to turn your attentions to the likes of snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, all of which can be sorted locally. If you’ve got family members to entertain, plan days out at local attractions such as the Alberta Railway Museum (15 minutes), filled with old locomotives, and Jurassic Forest (20 minutes), where trails are lined with life-size models. A little further away is Sassy G’s Adventure Farm (45 minutes), which has animals to meet and obstacle courses to tackle. Edmonton (25 minutes) has plenty to offer, too – it's home to North America's largest mall and the huge River Valley Parks as well as several museums including the Royal Alberta Museum and Fort Edmonton Park. Edmonton also stages several festivals each year, so have a look to see what’s on while you’re in the area.
