  • Traditional thatched cottage in Co. Leitrim's Glenade Valley
  • A five-minute drive from the Arroo Trail; 10 minutes from Kinlough
  • Cosy kitchen/living space with open fire and gorgeous views
Scenic hikes by day and a fabulously cosy place to relax in the evenings – how does that sound as a splendid mix for a break in the Leitrim countryside? Well, it’s exactly this combo that’s on offer when you stay at Ghleann Éada, a traditional two-bedroom thatched cottage in the Glenade Valley about 10 minutes' drive from Kinlough. The views towards Glenade Lough and Eagle’s Rock from the cottage should give you something of a hint that there’s some stunning countryside around for hikes, bike rides and other outdoor activities. That said, it may well be that you’d prefer to give your legs a rest and soak up the scenery from the cottage grounds instead – they’re particularly good from the summer cabin at the back of the property, which can also be used for barbecues. Whether you choose to pack your days with activity or take it easy, you should find this cottage to be a good place for some relaxation time. It may be over a hundred years old, but it’s been restored and updated to create a cosy and atmospheric space that makes a great little retreat from everyday life. Inside the cottage are two double bedrooms, a vintage-style bathroom and a snug area with bean bags and yoga mats. You may well find that the bulk of your time, however, is spent in the living room/kitchen area, which has a piano, comfy sofas, a traditional fireplace (with wood provided) and a huge bay window with gorgeous mountain views. In a nod to modern technology, the cottage has underfloor heating to keep your toes warm at all times.
