  • Pet-friendly site on 235 acres of parkland
  • Half an hour's drive from Silverstone
  • Fishing lakes, bars and restaurants
What a whopper of a site. Award-winning activity and fishing centre Billing Aquadrome is a couple of miles from Great Billing in Northamptonshire and set over 235 acres of green parkland and lakes. With so much to do around its grounds, it's likely that you'll want to stay put here for your entire trip… and if you do desire to speed off somewhere, Silverstone is only half an hour's drive away. The site is set an aquadrome surrounded by water, so it has fishing lakes of varying sizes and depths where avid anglers can cast off for carp and common mirror carp, catfish, pike, roach, bream, tench and rudd. Bring along your own fishing kit and an up-to-date licence, and buy a fishing ticket from the team if you want to try your luck. Away from the water, the many other facilities include bars and restaurants (yes, plural, plus a beer garden). Just take note that the bar, beer garden and restaurant are all adults-only from 10pm. And speaking of the essentials... there are takeaways, a supermarket and shops right on site too, as well as picnic areas, Sky Sports and – if you need your barnet tamed after all that activity – a hairdresser's.

Shelduck (area 2) electric grass pitch

Liked: A lot of the site looks brand new. The toilets/shower block were clean. Pitches are close to main area. Loads of children's entertainment throughout the day including movies. Food & drinks prices are average. Mini golf course is free.

Disliked: Noisy site at night, a lot of people quite loud quite late at night. We were told we didn't need to book swimming when checking in, soon found out we did need to book! Arcade was expensive. Saw people signing to say they had cleaned toilet blocks and them walking away.

Shelduck (area 2) electric grass pitch

Liked: Facilities on site. Large area. Inflatable obstacle course on the lake - the new activities opening up soon look great

Disliked: Shortness/rudeness of someone on the phone (assuming customer service). I don’t think the ‘token’ process at the water park is necessary - surely it’s obvious that someone who’s got their wetsuit, socks and flotation device has paid to do the activity. Busyness and randomness of the parking on the tent field and also the noisyness of some of the campers. Can’t be helped but the noise from the road can be heard on a night in your tent

Shelduck (area 2) electric grass pitch

Liked: Billing has undergone a great change, so much for kids, it's a great place to visit now.

Disliked: Sadly, the twin axel community seem welcome there, very late night shouting, fighting, kids driving vans, leaving mess and spoiling it for others close by. Be careful where you pitch.

Shelduck (area 2) electric grass pitch

Liked: The Venue, great pizza from Papa Johns, playpark and tunnels, pool, skateboard ramp. Shop was reasonably priced with friendly staff. Gate check in also very helpful.

Disliked: Smell of weed, excessive drunken noise at night until 1:30, no security presence, building work in high season, dirty changing rooms at pool. Shower drains badly designed so a mini river runs through the cubicle and impossible to get dried and dressed with children. They have just been renewed I fear.
