One of our most favoured French theme parks is in Poitou-Charentes. Aussi, camping in Poitou-Charentes will lead you to cognac countryside and the oysters of the Marennes, Roman remains and seaside resorts, the Zoo de La Palmyre and the Valley of the Monkeys… all in a mainly rural region with the sunniest coastal corner in France outside the Mediterranean. Vous êtes packed?
Pick a Poitou-Charentes campsite on the coast to be near seaside locales like La Rochelle, its old town, Vieux Port and acclaimed aquarium; the five fine sandy beaches and the Church of Notre-Dame at Royan, and the ancient Roman capital of Saintes on the Charente river to start. Inland, pretty Poitiers, Poitou-Charentes’s capital, is about ten kilometres from Futuroscope, and of course you’ll take a trip to the town of Cognac and its cognac houses, the Musée des Arts du Cognac and the five Cognac Trails nearby in Jarnac?
And that Valley of the Monkeys? Apart from being anywhere the kids are present, this is the Vallée des Singes at Romagne, a primate park with over 350 inhabitants roaming free range for your little monkeys to see.
