General

Welcome to Camp Laurent – Camping exclusively for adults in Charente, South West France. This adult only campsite is nestled in 8 acres of beautiful Charente countryside, just on the outskirts of the village of St-Laurent-de-Ceris. We also have 400m of river frontage, which forms part of the River Charente, which was described by both King Henry IV and King François I as “The most beautiful stream in france" . As the Charente is the second ‘sunniest’ region in France, St-Laurent-de-Ceris is perfectly situated to explore all that the Charente has to offer. Also we are only an hours drive from the neighbouring departments of Dordogne and Limousin.

Camp Laurent is a small and Peaceful 'CL' style caravan, motorhome and camping adult only site. Camp Laurent is here for our guests to soak up the ambience of this lovely part of France. The campsite borders the River Charente with great views over the valley, open fields and oak woodland. The river that borders our site can be accessed at the bottom of a lovely wooded bank. Here you can sit and fish or for the more energetic of you maybe a trip down the river in a canoe, or simply sit with a glass of wine and watch the beautiful wild butterflies that
visit us each year.

Local attractions

Confolens and the Fesitival de Folklore.

Confolens is the home of the Festival de Folklore, one of France's largest and best known folklore festivals, which takes place annually in August and had over 100,000 visitors last year.
Confolens was built around a fortress first mentioned in the eleventh century. It still has picturesque remnants of its medieval past, including city walls and several houses dating from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries. It also features a bridge first mentioned in the fourteenth century.

Château de la Rochefoucauld.

Towering above the town of La Rochefoucauld by the River Rardoire in the Charente, the Château de la Rochefoucauld is an impressive castle, with its original 11th century square keep flanked by Renaissance towers.
It is still the residence of the La Rochefoucauld family, one of the oldest noble families in France, and has been in almost continuous ownership since it was first built.
Parts of the château are open to the public - there is no garden - and highlights include the beautiful 16th century staircase, highly ornate Renaissance detailing in the ceiling and windows, and the courtyard with its Italianate archways.

Château de la Rochechouart

The oldest part of the Chateau Rochechouart, built by the viscounts of Rochechouart, including the gatehouse and the keep going back to the late twelfth century. For the most part, the building is a testament to the turn of the architecture between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance .Defensive element in an area marked for nearly three centuries by the conflict between France and England, the castle is indeed of the fifteenth century decorative elements (twisted columns, bas-reliefs) showing its new use. During the French Revolution, the castle was plundered, its furniture and dispersed archives. The department of Haute-Vienne in 1836 bought the castle of Rochechouart family. The building has since been the subject of several campaigns of restoration and rehabilitation.

THE Great 'Lacs de Haute Charente'.

Here, the sky is reflected in the Haute Charente lakes. Spread your towel on a sandy beach in the sun for a nap or a swim,or to stroll on the footpaths along the shores of the lakes; picnic on one of the areas on specially designed banks. Everything is there to facilitate your stay!
Walk and Ramble

The boating lake offers windsurfing, dinghy, catamaran, rowing, canoeing, kayaking, and mountain bikes ... all in an exceptional setting!
The beautiful beach Guerlie on the shores of Lake Lavaud, one of the 2 great lakes of the Haute Charente. Another lovely beach called Pre Peyras can be found at Roumazieres-Loubert. Here you can enjoy a sandy beach in a natural and enjoyable setting and is only 10 minutes drive from the campsite.

Cycling in and around the Charente.

The Charente has something for all cyclists – whether you want to take a cycling tour through beautiful traditional French villages or simply cycle to the boulangerie for your daily baguette!
As the Charente is the second ‘sunniest’ region in France with very low rainfall you can enjoy cycling without having to worry about bad weather. The Charente features over 1000 km of marked mountain bike trails helping you to discover the beautiful countryside of the region. The Mountain Bike routes vary from 6 km to 50 km in length, from 65m to 850m altitude and through a variety of difficulty levels which means that they are suitable for everyone!
