  • Spacious static caravan with sea views over Cardigan Bay
  • A couple of minutes' walk from the coast path and Birds Rock
  • A 10-minute walk from the local pub and 15 minutes from New Quay
Beaches, birdwatching and beers beckon for guests at Penrhyn Farm, in a quiet corner of Ceredigion. Peer out of the windows here and you’ll see the sea stretching out ahead – because the site's only a couple of minutes’ walk from the coast (and of course the Ceredigion Coast Path, a firm fave for both human visitors and any four-legged pals they may have brought along). Stash your binoculars in your bag if you’re off out for a stroll, because it’s only a short bimble too to Birds Rock, a popular hangout for colonies of guillemots, razorbills and other seabirds. In fact, it’s a fine idea to keep your binoculars close to hand at most times when you’re out and about, as you may get lucky with dolphin sightings from the coast path. If not, it’s a 15-minute wander to New Quay for boat trips to seek them out. You might also opt to eat in New Quay (especially if you fancy fish and chips), or keep things even easier by taking the 10-minute stroll to the local pub for pints and meals. If eating out doesn’t appeal, stay in for supper cooked up in your well-equipped caravan kitchen; fingers crossed for good weather so you can serve up with a sea view on the private deck. (Damp days aren’t a disaster, mind you – there’s a spacious living area with dining table and sofas if you’re in the mood for a TV dinner.)

Local attractions

Want to get a closer look at some of the creatures that live around these parts? Head to New Quay to board boat trips in search of the dolphins, seals and sea birds that dwell in and around the water. The town also has fishing trips (not for dolphins, of course) and a watersports centre where you can dabble in all sorts of activities including sailing, paddleboarding and sea kayaking. Back on dry land there are lots of beaches to visit along this stretch of the Ceredigion coast. As well as the two beaches in New Quay, you might like to set your sights on the little cove at Cwmtydu (15 minutes’ drive), the National Trust’s Penbryn beach (20 minutes) and the great swath of Poppit Sands (40 minutes). A little bus trundles between several of them in summer if you’d like to skip driving for the day. Away from the coast, you may like to take a wander around the house and gardens at Llanerchaeron (20 minutes), take an arty walk at Sculptureheaven (25 minutes) and sip local spirits at Dà Mhìle Distillery (20 minutes).
