  • Friendly well-maintained park on the banks of Wooler Water
  • Lounge bar, restaurant and entertainment in peak season
  • A 10-minute uphill walk from the medieval market town of Wooler
Avoid the crowds crawling to the southwest coast and breeze your way to Riverside Leisure Park on the edge of the Northumberland National Park instead… This is a friendly, well-maintained site on the banks of Wooler Water, with plenty to appeal to the whole family: perhaps pottering around the riverbanks and stunning woodland, setting up for a bit of fly fishing, or a few rounds of pool in the games room. The park has good essential amenities, including a lounge bar and restaurant with Sky Sports and BT Sports, a launderette, play area and entertainment over peak season. It's also only 10 minutes' uphill walk away from the centre of Wooler, a medieval market town with restaurants, coffee shops and lots to browse around.

Liked Friendly staff on reception
Pub is a short stroll from the site and food was lovely

Disliked Pitches all too close to each other
Very noisy
Kids running around screaming and on your pitch in their bikes and kicking balls
Parents shouting their mouths off all
Started at 7.30 in the morning and still noisy at 9pm
We booked 4 nights but stayed for 2 and found another campsite to move too
Only 3 toilets and 3 showers for the for the whole campsite

Camping pod

Liked Perfect little stay in the pod
Worth the money
Pods aren’t massive but it is for sure big enough for a few days camping especially if you can’t be bothered to put your tent up. Facilities are great and fab little club house which suits all ages!
Wooler it’s self even has a selection of pubs and places to eat and a fab sweet shop that we visited
Staff at riverside are lovely and quick to answer questions you have

Disliked Couldn’t fault anything

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We loved our stay at riverside. It was well situated for travelling to the beautiful villages in Northumberland.

The site is beautifully kept and tidy. Has the added bonus of a swimming pool, a pub that serves food and a shop a short walk away. The ‘Doddington dairy milk’ vending machine was lovely too.

The electric hookup and water next to pitch was also a bonus.

Our puppy loved walking round the site and meeting all the ducks with their ducklings.

It is a large site with both static and touring pitches.

Disliked I thought the touring pitches were really close together and packed in which left the space next to the awning very tight to fit our car. This meant people would park over the top of their pitch making it difficult to get in and out of the pitch.

The toilet block although very clean, it was small. The cubicles didn’t give much room to get dry once finishing with a shower. There were only 3 showers and 2/3 toilets that were working. One toilet in the male toilets leaked when flushed. In both female and male showers the water escaped onto the floor when using the shower and run throughout the toilet block. The shower didn’t stay on long enough, 10 seconds maximum. I feel the toilet/shower facilities have let Riverside down as it is a lovely, well maintained and well situated site.

We didn’t use the wifi as this was an added cost.

We only walked round the pond once as it was covered with duck droppings. I know this can’t be helped but it just didn’t seem looked after. The roads surrounding it were also covered with duck droppings making it hard to enjoy walking our puppy having to constantly watch where we were walking.

It may seem I have listed a lot of negatives but we did enjoy our stay with Riverside.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed and balanced review. We’re really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Riverside, loved the location for exploring Northumberland, and appreciated the cleanliness of the site, on-site facilities and those little extras such as the Doddington Dairy milk vending machine! It’s also lovely to hear that your puppy enjoyed meeting the ducks and exploring the site. 🐶🦆

We’re sorry that some aspects of your stay fell short. We appreciate your comments regarding the spacing of the touring pitches, parking, and particularly the toilet and shower facilities. We’ll make sure your feedback is passed on to the relevant team, including the issues with the showers, toilets and water escaping onto the floor.

We also understand your concerns about the amount of duck droppings around the pond and roads. While we can’t prevent the ducks from making themselves at home, we appreciate that this affected your enjoyment of walking your puppy and will look at how this area can be better maintained.

Thank you again for recognising the positives while also being honest about where we can improve. We’re glad you still enjoyed your stay, and we hope to welcome you back to Riverside in the future. 😊

Liked Was close to Cheviot hills

One member of staff was helpful in directing us to a swimming pool 20mins drive away as the site pool was fully booked for all of our stay.

Disliked Pitches were very close together and the facilities were among the worst we have seen.
The showers were mouldy and overflowed into the toilets so you were paddling through other people’s shower water when using the toilet.
The showers were so small it was impossible to keep clothes dry or to help a child to shower.
We stayed for three nights and the pool was fully booked for all of our stay so we couldn’t swim.
We tried to get food at 8pm (they serve until 9) but were told they had run out of everything.
Really disappointing stay. We hoped to have relaxing evenings, swimming and eating on site after a days walking but it was quite the opposite, with such run down facilities, we couldn’t wait to move on.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re pleased to hear that our location was convenient for your visit and that one of our team members was able to help with finding an alternative swimming pool.

However, we’re genuinely sorry that so many aspects of your stay fell short of expectations. We appreciate how disappointing it must have been to find the swimming pool fully booked throughout your stay, particularly when swimming was part of your plans. We’re also very concerned by your comments regarding the showers, toilets and general condition of the facilities, as this is certainly not the standard we aim to provide.

We’re equally sorry that you were unable to get food when you visited at 8pm. Running out of menu items while we were still advertising food service is understandably frustrating, and we’ll be reviewing this with the team.

Your comments have been shared with the relevant management team so that the issues you’ve highlighted can be properly addressed. We’re sorry we didn’t provide the relaxing stay you had hoped for, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us identify where improvements are needed.

Kind regards,
Jes

Liked The pods and the services

Disliked The WiFi. Paid for the 3 day Internet pass but did not receive the voucher code for other devices and it was hit and miss when it worked!

Also arrived at 5.05pm and nobody was in reception, all locked up, had to wait a while to get keys.

Food at the canny owl was quite expensive.

We’re sorry to hear about the issues you experienced with the WiFi, particularly after purchasing the 3-day internet pass, and for the delay when you arrived and found reception closed. We appreciate how frustrating this must have been and will look into these points with the relevant teams.

Local attractions

Trip-trap over the bridge from Riverside Leisure Park to Wooler, a pretty medieval market town with some alluring eateries, pubs and shops, and the ideal starting point for walks into the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland National Park. Cycling, fishing, golfing and horse riding fans will also find rich pickings nearby. If you haven’t explored the Northumberland coastline before, you’re in for a treat. Expect atmospheric ancient edifices in spectacular surroundings, such as Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne; seaside villages like Seahouses, where you can jump aboard a sea safari boat to the Farne Islands; and miles and miles of nature reserves and wide sandy beaches. You can follow Hadrian’s Wall westbound from its start point in Wallsend, stopping off at Roman forts in scenic settings as you head in the direction of Carlisle; travel along peaceful country roads to explore the Scottish borders; or south to visit Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Garden, contemporary gardens with one of the world’s biggest treehouses. For city lights, hit the A1 for an easy ride to Newcastle and Gateshead, both buzzing with culture (try the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art or a gig at the Sage Concert Hall), museums, football, restaurants, nightlife and shops; or head further north for a day trip to the many-splendoured delights of Edinburgh.
