  • Wildlife haven in west Norfolk: walk to the beach in two minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site next to the Norfollk Coast Path
  • Barbecues and campfires allowed; shop and pub a few minute's walk away
The splendid beach near Hunstanton Camping and Glamping (dog-friendly Heacham beach, two minutes' walk away) is the only east-coast beach in Britain facing west. This means that guests here are often treated to the sight of a spectacular sunset over the sea – a real rarity for Norfolk. As well being a romantic sunset spot, this location is also a very enticing one for watersports enthusiasts, hikers and families – plus dog owners, who are welcome to bring their pet along for a holiday and a ramble along the Norfolk coast. Hunstanton Camping and Glamping is on the edge of the village of Heacham, in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive. The site has a good selection of amenities including toilets (ladies', gents' and unisex facilities), four indoor unisex showers and a number of outdoor showers. Grey waste water disposal and chemical disposal are available for touring guests, and plug sockets in washrooms mean you can charge phones or use hairdryers easily enough. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need. There's also a pub a few minutes' walk away.

Electric optional grass campervan pitch

Liked: Chilled vibe. Campfires allowed. Location near beach.

Disliked: Facilities, showers cramped, dirty, cold.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed the chilled vibe, the allowance of campfires, and our location near the beach. We appreciate you highlighting these positives. We're also sorry to hear about your experience with the facilities, particularly the showers being cramped, dirty, and cold. This is certainly not the standard we aim for, and we will be looking into these issues immediately to make improvements. We hope you might consider staying with us again in the future to see the changes we make.

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Great location 5 mins walk to the beach

Disliked: Was like staying on an abandoned allotment, grass needs cutting, tidying up everywhere, washing facilities had no hot water, no roof, no plugs! There is so much glass on the road / path that is dangerous to dogs and children, soooo overpriced for what you get. Not value for money cost me £105 for 2 night £12 my 2 dogs for what? Glass in their paws ?

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and I sincerely apologize that your stay didn't meet your expectations – or what we aim to provide.

Regarding the location, we're glad you appreciated the proximity to the beach. However, it's clear we fell far short in other crucial areas.

We are very concerned to hear about the state of the grounds and the lack of essential facilities like hot water, a roof, and plugs in the washing area. That is simply unacceptable, and we will be looking into this immediately to understand what went wrong and to rectify these issues as a top priority.

We are aware of the issue with the road and we are having it rescreened shortly

Second visit here and will definitely come back again

Electric optional grass campervan pitch (no awning)

Liked: Close to beach .

Disliked: The whole campsite is a rubbish ground.
To drive to your pitch is old sharp harcore covered with glass.
The showers are dirty which are clogged up. Toilets are not that clean.
There is sewage comming up through the ground absolutely smells vile.
Even the chickens looked miserable.
We left early to go elsewhere.
I don't like writing bad reviews but people need to know how bad this place is .
I can't believe what we paid to stay here it's a total health hazard.

From the manager: Your feedback, while difficult to read, is invaluable in helping us to identify critical areas for improvement, and we are committed to making the necessary changes. Our road is being remade this week and we have reported your concerns with cleanliness to housekeeping. Our free ranging hens are loved by our guests and are sure friendly, some are in brood at present so may not be looking their best!

Electric optional grass campervan pitch

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: The site was a danger. I am just glad I didn't have children or dogs. Our face dropped when we drove into site especially as we paid £68 per night (most expensive site we've been on and the worse. The paths were full of broken glass and rusty metal pieces. One man found a rusty knife blade . Toilets no toilet roll , 2 sinks and very slow cold water out of one. Was never cleaned while we we there. Showers mould in joints. One broken hook to hand everything on. Couldn't put things on the floor as water flowed over shower base . Didn't take my sliders off as floor filthy. Outside washing up sinks filthy and only one had warm water.
General site disgusting. Paid for 3 night only stayed 2 . To depressing. Nobody dare move their vans/caravan/motohomes incase they damaged wheel. So glad we weren't in a tent.
My husband said not all urinals had water connected.
Can you justify the price and safety or lack if it. It doesn't warrant any stars but I states I have to have to give one. Not worth the one star.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay. We were concerned to read about the issues you encountered with site conditions and facilities, particularly regarding safety and cleanliness.

We take all guest feedback seriously and are currently looking into the specific points you raised, including the reports of broken glass, metal, and the knife blade on the paths. Ensuring a safe environment for all our guests is important to us, and we will be conducting a thorough site inspection as a result of your comments.

Regarding the toilet and shower facilities, we have general cleaning protocols in place, and we will be reviewing our procedures to ensure they are being consistently met and are effective. We will also be checking the functionality of the sinks and showers. Similarly, we will be looking into the condition of the washing-up areas and the availability of hot water.

We understand your disappointment with the site and the value for money experienced. We strive to provide a positive experience for all our guests, and your feedback highlights areas where we may need to focus our attention.

We appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention, as it provides us with valuable information for review and potential improvements to our site and services

Electric optional grass campervan pitch (no awning)

Liked: Location is perfect with just a 3 minute walk to South Beach.

The bathrooms are nice and well maintained.

Friendly staff.

Plenty of opportunities for exploration and beautiful views along the beach.

Disliked: Unfortunately they have used what looks like the cheapest builders rubble for the hardstanding parts of the location. Not ideal if you have pets or children as there was large parts of glass and plastic.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! We're delighted you appreciated our perfect location with such easy access to South Beach, enjoyed our nice and well-maintained bathrooms, and found our staff friendly. It's also wonderful to hear you enjoyed the opportunities for exploration and the beautiful beach views!

We are, however, very concerned to read your comments about the hardstanding areas and the presence of builders' rubble, including glass and plastic, the road is being covered this week :)

The site is behind the sea defences: watch out as you head towards the sea. The site is the last farm building on the left-hand side of the road. From the A149 at King's Lynn, turn left towards Heacham South Beach (Lamsey Lane). Then, turn left again towards the beach and turn left into the campsite when you can see the sea in front of you (roughly 1000 yards before the beach).

Local attractions

Nature fans rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes' drive) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash. Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species. Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
