Norfolk Coast B&B Cottages & Camping: An overview of our campsite where you can see how close we are to the beach!

General

  • Wildlife haven among open fields: walk to the beach in five minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site just behind the coast path
  • Barbecues and campfires both allowed: shop a minute's walk away

The splendid beach near Norfolk Coast B&B Cottages & Camping is the only eastern beach in Britain facing west. (Do keep up: the setting is in East Anglia, thus east, but the beach is Heacham, facing west.)

And what does this mean apart from just the opportunity to bamboozle the kids? Spectacular sunrises and sunsets, that's what, as well as a setting just five minutes from these dog-friendly sands and with easy access to the beaches, birdwatching, boating and rambles of the Wash and west Norfolk's coast.

Norfolk Coast B&B Cottages & Camping is a few minutes' drive from Heacham (or 10 minutes via the Coasthopper bus), in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive.

The site has a good selection of amenities including three toilet cubicles (separate ladies' and gents'), two unisex showers and a washroom space, as well as a washing-up area and a freshwater tap/brown water and chemical waste disposal point for guests' use. Charging facilities are available for a small extra charge. Please note there are farm tracks on site (not paved roads) and no play area, although the beach is half a mile away.

Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need.

From the manager...

Thank you Rose for your brilliant review, we were so pleased to have you stay with us here on the Norfolk Coast, we do indeed like to key an eye on our guests to ensure that everyone is having a great time, although in the sunshine we have been having it's had to have a bad time! We are working on new showers and wifi is always available, also even though we are rural, 4g is pretty good here too. We very much hope to see you with here by the beach in Heacham again soon :)

Super quiet site, great location near walks and the beach, fantastic recycling! The owners were really friendly and helpful and around and about - am sure they would have dealt with any issues if they had arisen. Loads of loos, super clean. Flat pitches. Nice relaxed owners.

    Disliked:

Perhaps another shower or two for when the site gets busy? It is quite expensive (which might explain why it was quite quiet), which put us off a third night - so maybe some sort of discount if you stay more than 2 nights you get a cheaper rate?? The washing up sinks are quite shallow... might be a problem for bigger pots / cleaning off bbq grills??

From the manager...

Thank you, Emilie, for your brilliant review, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay here with us by the beach in Heacham, we have a great location here with endless walking routes, the beach 2 mins away and Hunstanton close by. We are currently building some more showers and have many buckets available for your to wah bigger pots & pans etc. We are a very quiet site and our price can put a lot of people off, but if you are looking for a campsite that offers back to basics in a ideal location, then we are for you :)

    Location to beach

    Disliked:

Hugely expensive for a site that is largely unfinished and like a building site. YEP ITS CLOSE TO THE BEACH WE KNOW OWNER, but toilets are unfinished, wash your hands outside in a basin however plastic buckets are provided to enable you to wash at your pitch!!! Showers are poorly drained so you stand in your own pool of water, pitches are small and separated by planks of wood, grass is unkempt. We ended up paying £73 per night with no EHU including an admin fee imposed by owner to change booking (owner originally changed booking as couldn’t provide EHU with no admin fee) and the amended price was more expensive than rate I could of booked on Pitchup on day of arrival all pointed out to the owner. It’s basically a field near a beach with very basic facilities and if that’s your thing and you want the festival experience then great but not at £73 a night.

From the manager...

Thank you Andy for your review, we are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your stay with us by the beach in Heacham, we had glorious weather all weekend and lots of very happy campers, with lots of comments on the festival atmosphere, most seemed to like it! We are a back to basics campsite ideally located on the Norfolk Coast, if you are looking for the bells and whistles of a holiday park you won't find that here I am afraid. We have a friendly atmosphere with vast open skies to enjoy a campfire with friends and family. We do hope that you'll visit us again soon, but if our camping is not your kind of camping we understand :)

Electric hook ups screwed to plywood sheeting and propped up
Campers' dogs loose on the site

From the manager...

Thank you Polly for your review, we were so pleased to have you stay here with us on the Norfolk Coast, we have a great location here right but the beach in Heacham. We do offer chemical disposal but prefer that grey water go back to nature. We are currently not offering electric hookups and have no such amenity out and available. Our showers and toilets are thoroughly cleaned, the odd spider helps with the flies as we are a rural country campsite. We hope that you'll visit us again soon :)

Local attractions

Twitchers rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash.

Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species.

Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
