Camping in Colwyn Bay? Jolly good. For from a Colwyn Bay campsite you’ll be around the bonzer coastline of North Wales towards the Irish Sea; five miles from fellow seaside resort and all round good egg Llandudno; among award-winning beaches and award-winning blooms, and close to the penguins, chimps, seals and hawks of the hillside Welsh Mountain Zoo, all of whom can be compared to the kids/other half for maximum holiday mirth. Lol.
The beach at The Bay was part of a recent project by The Authorities to shore up and extend the Colwyn Bay beach as part of a battle against erosion – clever – and now goes on for over two miles (see if you can run, Rocky Balboa-like, along the water’s edge for its full length). While they were at it, the powers that be added the Porth Eirias Watersports Centre to the promenade, where newbies and improvers can have tuition to get the hang of power boating, windsurfing and sailing (hire canoes and kayaks from here too). For walkies and sea views, follow the promenade from Old Colwyn to Penrhyn Bay and on to Rhos-on-Sea; the nature trails of Colwyn’s Pwllycrochan Woods are cleverly laid out too.
