  • Peaceful, well-kept farm site 10 minutes’ drive from Abergele
  • Llandudno half an hour’s drive; Eryri National Park 35 minutes
  • Large grass pitches a few minutes’ drive from the A55
Somewhere within easy reach of both the coast and Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park is a good choice for a stay in north Wales. And that’s exactly the location that Peniarth Bach Farm has, surrounded by green countryside about 10 minutes’ drive south of Abergele. This is a peaceful rural farm site, but it’s a handy base for all sorts of days out as it’s only a few minutes’ drive from the A55, the main trunk road running along the North Wales coast. That means it’s pretty straightforward to get to the beaches and resorts along the coast – from Conwy (25 minutes’ drive), to Llandudno (half an hour); the walking trails, mountains and adrenaline activities of Eryri (35 minutes); and all sorts of attractions for all ages. You may like to throw in a trip to Anglesey as well; the bridges over the Menai Strait are only about 40 minutes away by car. Back at the farm, you’ll be staying on spacious, well-maintained grass pitches with purpose-built bathroom facilities including ladies’ and gents’ toilets and showers, plus an accessible/family wetroom. Other facilities on site include a launderette, a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Friendly, welcoming owners who made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. The campsite is peaceful, beautifully maintained and very clean. The toilets, showers and washing-up areas were spotless throughout my stay. I also liked how convenient everything was, with the toilets, water points and bins all close by. The atmosphere was wonderful and I met lots of friendly people from all walks of life. There is a local shop around a 15-minute walk away (5 minutes by car), and Indian delivery is available if wanted. Some pitches are gently sloped, so campervans may benefit from levelling blocks. I had the most relaxing weekend and will definitely be back.

Disliked Nothing worth mentioning. The approach roads and the road when walking to the shop are quite narrow in places, but that’s part of the charm of the countryside location.

Liked Great place to stay, amazing views, great location, peaceful with good amenities, a lovely hot shower and spotlessly clean toilet facilities. Several of the pitches had picnic benches to use too. We couldn’t fault our stay

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Berry peaceful We loved the views (wow), the location good sized open pitches. Very clean facilities all in excellent working order. Staff were lovely with great communication throughout. Easy reach of Betwys, Conway etc.

Disliked An extra shelf in the toilets to put wash bags etc would be helpful. Yes the pitches are on a slope but we soon go used to them.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely quiet campsite. Very clean facilities! Great place!

Disliked A bin in both the washing up area and main part of the toilets would have been handy. We also had a 7 month old so having a baby change in the family room would have made showering and dressing the baby a little easier, however the family room was helpful!

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely setting. Kevin was really welcoming and helpful when we arrived 30mins before check-in and asked about nearby shops

Disliked Water went off for a few hours one evening. They had the same probing our arrival day but they did work to get it back up and running.

Dog running free unobserved. One of the touring residents’ dogs ran over and poo’d near our setup. I went over and asked them for a bag to pick it up and instead of coming to pick it up I was given a bag and had to get rid of it myself. I felt that was irresponsible but not really the site owner fault…just the residents thinking rules about dogs on leads don’t apply to them I suppose.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Location and very friendly staff. Very clean showers and toilets. Useful laundry room.

Disliked Showers are a bit dated. You need to press the button every 10 seconds to keep the shower running. One night, we didn’t have hot water in the shower.

Local attractions

A Cwtch Corner where the kids can pet guinea pigs and rabbits; a paddock with friendly ponies and alpacas; and a Reptile Hut (for kids who are into all things slithery) are among the attractions at Manorafon Farm Park (10 minutes’ drive). There is also a Dinosaur Adventure Trail with life-size animatronic prehistoric beasties. In addition to a vast expanse of sand, Rhyl (25 minutes) has the beachfront Children’s Village (with rides and miniature golf) and a skate park for older kids. Weather not playing nice? No problem: the whole family can take shelter at SC2, a complex with an indoor waterpark, a soft-play area and a ninja adventure course. In Llandudno (half an hour), take the cable car to the top of the Great Orme headland, where you can visit an ancient copper mine; hike a coastal nature trail where you might spot kittiwakes and guillemots (plus the resident wild goats); and, of course, take in spectacular ocean and coastal views.
