Good food at the swallow falls inn

  • Peaceful family-friendly site next to Swallow Falls at Betws-y-Coed
  • Zip World Llechwedd 25 minutes’ drive; Conwy Castle half an hour
  • On-site pub with relaxed dining; Gwydyr Forest walks from the pitches
Sitting right next to its spectacular namesake waterfall on Afon (river) Llugwy and five minutes’ drive from the alpine-esque village of Betws-y-Coed, The Swallow Falls Inn is tucked into a valley in the lush Gwydyr Forest. The site is also in the centre of spectacular Eryri National Park, putting you close to all the splendid scenery and active adventure attractions of North Wales. The list of amenities at this peaceful spot are fairly short: the dog-friendly grass pitches have access to modern showers, a washing-up area and a recycling zone – but there is a jolly good on-site pub where you can enjoy relaxed dining on favourites like fish and chips or burgers, as well as having a choice of beers, wines and soft drinks. If you run short of anything, there are grocers and delis in Betws-y-Coed, where you can also pick up information on making the most of your time in the national park. You'll also have direct access to country walks – and the short trail down to Swallow Falls – directly from the pitches.

What customers say

This well-maintained campsite offers clean, modern shower and toilet facilities, often described as exceptional. Pitches are on multi-levels with car parking separate from tents to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. The on-site pub serves good food, and the location is praised for its scenic beauty and proximity to walking routes and attractions. Common concerns include noise from the nearby road and occasional issues with midges. Some guests found it challenging to carry gear to higher pitches and noted a lack of hot water at washing-up stations.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Very well looked after campground with clean and recently furbished shower block and ample parking. Handy that shampoo and conditioner are provided. Friendly and cosy pub on site serving good food. Perfectly located to visit Swallow Falls and Cae'n y Coed forest (both adjacent), Betws-y-Coed (few mins drive) and surrounding mountains.

Disliked Would have liked to see more local ales on offer in the pub.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely quiet site right next to the shallow falls. From our pitch we could hear the waterfall which was so nice and peaceful. Pitch space is good and plenty of areas to choose from. Toilet and shower block always clean and warm. Staff very friendly and the pub onsite serves great food. Really good location and was able to access loads of different things within a 30 min drive. Would definitely recommend and go again.

Liked Brilliant camping spot. Fantastic location for getting to trail heads and into town for shops and restaurants. The campsite facilities were great and kept very clean, handy to have the pub nearby too.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We absolutely loved our two-night stay at Swallow Falls Inn! The location is absolutely stunning and made for such a lovely, peaceful getaway.

All of the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and accommodating, which really made our stay even better. We were also so impressed by how helpful everyone was — when it was time to leave, the maintenance man even helped take our camping gear back to the car, which was such a thoughtful touch!

There are pitches available right near the loading area if convenience is important to you, but we chose a slightly more secluded and obscure spot, which was perfect for us. It was great having the flexibility to choose the type of pitch that suited us.

We had such a lovely time and would definitely return. Highly recommend Swallow Falls Inn for anyone looking for a beautiful location, friendly staff and a relaxing camping experience!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Location

Disliked The fact I put in my parameters only to turn up and be told it was tent only, we were rejected from the site in our VW Campervan, the manager was unapproachable and unhelpful. Two adults and two children struggled to find accommodation due to being peak season.

Local attractions

Active families can make a beeline for the adrenaline-inducing zipwires and subterranean trampolines at Zip World Llechwedd (25 minutes’ drive), or navigate the underground rock scrambles and climbs in the old slate mine at Go Below Underground Adventures (10 minutes). If you have younger kids with you, GreenWood Family Park (40 minutes) is a good choice, with its gentle rollercoasters and waterslides. And of course, all the climbing, hiking, off-road biking and cycling opportunities of Eryri National Park are at your disposal, as well as paddleboarding and kayaking on Llyn Tegid (also 40 minutes). Closer to the site you may like to take a refreshing dip in the pools at Fairy Glen (10 minutes) when the weather is warm. If you’re looking to sneak a little culture into your Eryri visit, the mighty medieval Conwy Castle (half an hour) is open for exploration of its many towers and curtain walls. Caernarfon Castle (40 minutes) has lots of nooks and crannies to explore too, as well as a military-history museum.
