Pant Y Rhedyn: nestled in the meadow

General

  • Comfy site on a smallholding in the Conwy hills
  • A half-mile walk to village pub with grub
  • 30 mins to Snowdonia National Park; 20 to Colwyn Bay

Between the mountains and the sea, a stay on this quiet smallholding gives you space to consider your options.

Pant Y Rhedyn is 10 acres of meadow land in the hills of the Conwy valley. It's fresh air and views stretching from the Snowdonian mountains to the Irish Sea. It's also, in the midst of all this open space and nature, an extremely comfy spot to stay.

Roomy geodesic domes give you all-day views of the finest kind, from the morning mists to the sunsets and the night sky. There's a log fire to toast your toes inside and campfire to toast what you choose outside. After days of fresh air and nights of stargazing, you'll appreciate the beds (one double, two single sofa beds) and warm blankets. Morning cuppas can be brewed on the camping stove, and the kitchens have all that's necessary for a basic bit of nosh. Fridges, freezers and washing-up facilities are communal, but every dome comes with its own hot shower and toilet.

There's nothing like barbecuing some bangers on a fire while you sit under a canopy of stars and plan tomorrow's escapades. If you'd like things a little easier, the pub's a 10-minute walk or a five-minute drive down the road, serving up hot grub and local ales.

    Absolutely everything.

Claire was probably the best host we have ever had, we were made to feel so welcome and comfortable. The attention to detail in the glamming domes, facilities, surround area, amenities and the environment were second to none- there is nothing Claire hadn’t thought of and the welcome hamper is such a nice touch.Everywhere was spotless with a high spec decor- everything was like new.

Claire even took us round with our little boy to feed her animals and spent so much time talking us through everything and teaching us about the different animals, it was fantastic. The whole place feels safe and secure and we felt relaxed about our 3 year old running round freely.

We really appreciated the booking flexibility with the COVID/travel situation Claire was more than accommodating to us, moving us to a more expensive date but not charging us anymore money, we even got a membership to the Greener Camping Club included (as we had booked before this was a requirement of booking to stay at Pant Y Rhedyn)

We will 100% be coming to stay again next year!!

From the manager...

Hi Stuart. It was lovely meeting you both and showing you the animals. I am really sorry the weather impacted on your stay. Unfortunately this was out of my control. I hope to see you both again one day.

Everything! Well equipped with care and attention, clearly a passionate owner who really cares about your experience. Loved the dome, private facilities and the fact you could buy all your essentials. The dome was so cosy. The fire pit made evenings perfect. The dining area was also a real added bonus! We are normally campers but booked here due to it having the self contained bathrooms facilities safe to say we will be back for a more luxurious stay! Thank you Claire just perfect for our family.

Everything was thought of after a long drive. The dome was big enough to be confortable as a family of four. The washing/shower/toilet facilities were brilliant and a massive step up form a normal campsite. Claire is lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. Brilliant break and we may go back!

Local attractions

You're in a plum spot here for activities both mountainous and coastal. Surf Snowdonia (30 minutes' drive) even combines the two, with a giant artificial wave lake on the edge of the mountains. The national park visitor centre (25 minutes) is a good port of call for tips and guides to this fabulous region of mountain railways, high peaks and waterfalls. Many hiking and biking trails of all lengths start right there.

If you want to hit the heights without huffing and puffing, the mountain railway takes you from Llanberis (50 minutes) to the top of Mount Snowdon, giving you staggering views all the way without you having to stagger anywhere. Heading seawards, the beach and traditional seaside attractions of Colwyn Bay are 20 minutes' drive away: stop driving when you hit the sea (obviously) and bag yourself a boat trip down the River Conwy or round the coast.

Nearby Bodnant Garden (15 minutes from site) is a bountiful National Trust site of horticultural history, wild meadows and walking trails. Those who want to see the trees from a different angle meanwhile should head to Zip World (50 minutes), nothing to do with trousers and everything to do with zooming down Europe's longest zipline, swinging on high ropes and bouncing on underground trampolines.

Must see

  • Bodnant Garden (2.9 miles)
