General

  • Peaceful adults-only park just outside St Asaph
  • All sizes of tourers welcome
  • Bar and restaurant on site

Come to the Clwydian Range, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty among north Wales's culture, walking trails and miles of tracks for pedalling – and with the coast just a few miles away.

And then come camping at Rhuallt Country Park, a peaceful and family-run touring park minutes from the A55, with stunning views across fields up into the Clwydian range, and a friendly welcome for all. The team mission is to ensure guests have a peaceful and relaxed time in these scenic surroundings: if you need anything or would like suggestions on where to go in the area, the staff are always happy to help.

All tourers big and small are welcome at Rhuallt on its unlimited-sized pitches. Of an evening, settle down in the site bar and restaurant, the White House, for dinner and drinks; lunch, a la carte and kids' menus are available too as well as seasonal daily specials.

The friendly welcome on site extends to canines too as Rhuallt is dog-friendly, and pooches can scamper freely on the area's dog-friendly sands or tail wag their way along miles of lanes nearby.

Rhuallt is adults only; but you may see some children on site as some of the seasonal pitches are let to families.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Facilities very clean and site very nicely laid out and tidy.

    Disliked:

Gravel only pitches (42/43) ok but there were unused gravel/grass pitches available.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to review our site. We're pleased to hear you'd stay again and appreciated the facilities we have to offer. We do offer to types of pitches - our 'Slated Area' pitches, which you booked, are hard-standing and fully serviced, however they don't benefit from the surrounding grass area our other pitches do (hence the difference in price).

    Quality facilities block.
    Easy on/off pitches.
    Convenient for 5th wheel service!
    Improved recycling.
No "radio blether" going on in the washrooms anymore - Hurrah!

    Disliked:

Almost everyone has 16A these days - 10A is not enough. But, it is only about peak power, like a kettle for 2 mins without turning heating off, it's not that anyone uses much more energy overall with 16A.

WiFi is unusable. Up and coming touring folk expect this as standard now, and on many sites we go to it is included in the price.

    Site is getting pricey.

Local attractions

Did you know there is such a thing in the world as a people-powered rollercoaster? There is indeedy, at nearby GreenWood Forest Park, home of the planet's only human-powered rollercoaster and several times voted best family attraction in Wales. This is an eco-friendly activity centre with rides, live shows, play areas, crafts and furry/feathered inhabitants; prepare to spend the full day.

On the coast, check out the water-powered critters (sharks!) of SeaQuarium at Rhyl, or take trips around the coastline to Prestatyn, Abergele, Conwy Bay and onto Wales's biggest seaside resort Llandudno: another record breaker is here as the town has the longest toboggan run in Britain.

Snowdonia National Park is to the west of Rhuallt and is probably the most-visited area for walkers in this part of Wales, but hiking types have heaps more to pick from, like the Clwydian Range and the Vale of Clwyd inland and the Llŷn Peninsula and coastal paths of Anglesey towards the water. Prefer to golf? Over 50 courses are in the area, including ones with views to put you off at Beaumaris and Conwy castles.

The culture and history of Wales is plentiful around these parts too, with a couple of castles within a few miles and several museums, heritage centres and historic houses showcasing the country's history and mining heritage.

The National Cycle Network Route 5 runs along the fairly easy miles from Rhyl to Prestatyn, but if you fancy something a bit more hair-raising, mountain biking trails like the ones at Coed Llandelga Forest are easy to get to from Rhuallt Country Park and have lanes divided by ability so that the experienced can wheely hurtle along.

Other hair-raising days out can be had zooming along Europe's largest zipline at Zip World in the old slate mine of Penryn, or swinging about at Betws-y-Coed's Tree Top Adventure in Snowdonia National Park. And speaking of hair-raising, you could also have a go at climbing Snowdon, Wales's highest mountain.

Must see

  • Rhuddlan Castle (2.6 miles)
  • Bodelwyddan Castle (3.4 miles)
  • Bodnant Garden (15.8 miles)
