General

  • Peaceful adults-only park just outside St Asaph
  • All sizes of tourers welcome
  • Bar and restaurant on site

Come to the Clwydian Range, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty among north Wales's culture, walking trails and miles of tracks for pedalling – and with the coast just a few miles away.

And then come camping at Rhuallt Country Park, a peaceful and family-run touring park minutes from the A55, with stunning views across fields up into the Clwydian range, and a friendly welcome for all. The team mission is to ensure guests have a peaceful and relaxed time in these scenic surroundings: if you need anything or would like suggestions on where to go in the area, the staff are always happy to help.

All tourers big and small are welcome at Rhuallt on its unlimited-sized pitches. Of an evening, settle down in the site bar and restaurant, the White House, for dinner and drinks; lunch, a la carte and kids' menus are available too as well as seasonal daily specials.

The friendly welcome on site extends to canines too as Rhuallt is dog-friendly, and pooches can scamper freely on the area's dog-friendly sands or tail wag their way along miles of lanes nearby.

Rhuallt is adults only; but you may see some children on site as some of the seasonal pitches are let to families.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Good site, very large level pitches, well drained. 02/08/2017

  • Liked:

Spacious level pitches covered in well draining slate chips, easy access a short way from the North Wales expressway, pleasant views over countryside. Water tap and drain at each pitch. Medium sized site with some seasonal pitches and statics, but not overly-large or busy.

Very good value, I paid £12 night with EHU. The price was reduced because the toilet block had caught fire earlier in the year, the showers were out of action and the toilets were unisex. This had been made perfectly clear before booking and the toilets were perfectly adequate.

    Disliked:

Being woken at 8am by a man cutting the grass on a ride-on mower, whole caravan vibrating, not a good way to start the day on a "peaceful" site.

Apart from the man cutting the grass I didn't see any staff whatsoever. No barrier at the campsite, despite being given a barrier code, the barrier was missing, no real security, anyone could drive in (this is probably also a result of the fire).

No rubbish/recycling bins apart from at the site entrance.

Gravel car park pitch numbers 41 and above , white lines sprayed on gravel to mark pitches .
    Seen nicer car parks !
Even though many nice pitches free

From the manager...

We were disappointed to hear your stay on our park only deserved a 2/10, especially as many of our reviews average between 8-10. We pride ourselves on offering customers the best possible experience whilst staying at the park hence why, since the fire, we have opted not to position customers on pitches directly in front of the fire damaged building and to spread out the electrical loading. Therefore this is why you will have noticed a number of our pitches were empty. You also rated our Customer Service a 2, however when you phoned to complain about your pitch, we moved you immediately with no question and followed up the following morning to check you were happy with your pitch. All of our pitches are super pitches, fully serviced and hard-standing - for £12 a night we feel this is very reasonable and you would struggle to get a pitch of this standard elsewhere, for that price. Sorry we were unable to satisfy you.

I enjoyed my stay. The site was well laid out with plenty of room for the caravan awning and car. The services for the caravan were ideal, I did not have a dog, but the people who did, they were well behaved. No nuisance barking. The site was clean and well kept, grass tidy, clean toilet block. Really good food, and a dram if you wished. I found it well situated for touring about with the car. I will be back.

Local attractions

Did you know there is such a thing in the world as a people-powered rollercoaster? There is indeedy, at nearby GreenWood Forest Park, home of the planet's only human-powered rollercoaster and several times voted best family attraction in Wales. This is an eco-friendly activity centre with rides, live shows, play areas, crafts and furry/feathered inhabitants; prepare to spend the full day.

On the coast, check out the water-powered critters (sharks!) of SeaQuarium at Rhyl, or take trips around the coastline to Prestatyn, Abergele, Conwy Bay and onto Wales's biggest seaside resort Llandudno: another record breaker is here as the town has the longest toboggan run in Britain.

Snowdonia National Park is to the west of Rhuallt and is probably the most-visited area for walkers in this part of Wales, but hiking types have heaps more to pick from, like the Clwydian Range and the Vale of Clwyd inland and the Llŷn Peninsula and coastal paths of Anglesey towards the water. Prefer to golf? Over 50 courses are in the area, including ones with views to put you off at Beaumaris and Conwy castles.

The culture and history of Wales is plentiful around these parts too, with a couple of castles within a few miles and several museums, heritage centres and historic houses showcasing the country's history and mining heritage.

The National Cycle Network Route 5 runs along the fairly easy miles from Rhyl to Prestatyn, but if you fancy something a bit more hair-raising, mountain biking trails like the ones at Coed Llandelga Forest are easy to get to from Rhuallt Country Park and have lanes divided by ability so that the experienced can wheely hurtle along.

Other hair-raising days out can be had zooming along Europe's largest zipline at Zip World in the old slate mine of Penryn, or swinging about at Betws-y-Coed's Tree Top Adventure in Snowdonia National Park. And speaking of hair-raising, you could also have a go at climbing Snowdon, Wales's highest mountain.
