Rhuallt country park is in the clwydian valley

  • Adults-only park just outside St Asaph
  • All sizes of tourers welcome on unlimited-size pitches
  • Bar and restaurant on site; dogs welcome
Come to the Clwydian Range, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty among north Wales's culture, walking trails and miles of tracks for pedalling – and with the coast just a few miles away. And then come camping at Rhuallt Country Park, a peaceful and family-run touring park minutes from the A55, with stunning views across fields up into the Clwydian range, and a friendly welcome for all. The team mission is to ensure guests have a peaceful and relaxed time in these scenic surroundings: if you need anything or would like suggestions on where to go in the area, the staff are always happy to help. All tourers big and small are welcome at Rhuallt on its unlimited-sized pitches. Of an evening, settle down in the site bar and restaurant, the White House, for dinner and drinks; lunch and a la carte menus are available too as well as seasonal daily specials. The friendly welcome on site extends to canines too as Rhuallt is dog-friendly, and pooches can scamper freely on the area's dog-friendly sands or tail wag their way along miles of lanes nearby. Rhuallt is an adults-only site, but you may see some children on site as some of the seasonal pitches are let to families.

Liked: Quiet site, we have stayed here before and it's a good spot to use as a base to go out exploring. Facilities are basic, but clean.

Disliked: The dog walk is a little disappointing with it just being a small fenced path around a field that comes to a dead end.

Local attractions

Did you know there is such a thing in the world as a people-powered rollercoaster? There is indeedy, at nearby GreenWood Forest Park, home of the planet's only human-powered rollercoaster and several times voted best family attraction in Wales. This is an eco-friendly activity centre with rides, live shows, play areas, crafts and furry/feathered inhabitants: prepare to spend the full day... On the coast, check out the water-powered critters (sharks!) of SeaQuarium at Rhyl, or take trips around the coastline to Prestatyn, Abergele, Conwy Bay and onto Wales's biggest seaside resort Llandudno: another record breaker is here as the town has the longest toboggan run in Britain. Snowdonia National Park is to the west of Rhuallt and is probably the most-visited area for walkers in this part of Wales, but hiking types have heaps more to pick from, like the Clwydian Range and the Vale of Clwyd inland and the Llŷn Peninsula and coastal paths of Anglesey towards the water. The National Cycle Network Route 5 runs along the fairly easy miles from Rhyl to Prestatyn, but if you fancy something a bit more hair-raising, mountain biking trails like the ones at Coed Llandegla Forest are easy to get to from Rhuallt Country Park and have lanes divided by ability so that the experienced can really hurtle along.
