  • Wildlife haven in west Norfolk: walk to the beach in two minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site next to the Norfollk Coast Path
  • Barbecues and campfires allowed; shop and pub a few minute's walk away
The splendid beach near Hunstanton Camping and Glamping (dog-friendly Heacham beach, two minutes' walk away) is the only east-coast beach in Britain facing west. This means that guests here are often treated to the sight of a spectacular sunset over the sea – a real rarity for Norfolk. As well being a romantic sunset spot, this location is also a very enticing one for watersports enthusiasts, hikers and families – plus dog owners, who are welcome to bring their pet along for a holiday and a ramble along the Norfolk coast. Hunstanton Camping and Glamping is on the edge of the village of Heacham, in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive. The site has a good selection of amenities including toilets (ladies', gents' and unisex facilities), four indoor unisex showers and a number of outdoor showers. Grey waste water disposal and chemical disposal are available for touring guests, and plug sockets in washrooms mean you can charge phones or use hairdryers easily enough. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need. There's also a pub a few minutes' walk away.

What customers say

This campsite's main draw is its excellent location, just a few minutes' walk from the beach, offering beautiful sunsets and convenient access to local walks and amenities. Many visitors praised the friendly and helpful staff, particularly Nigel, and enjoyed the peaceful, relaxed atmosphere and spacious pitches. However, several reviews mentioned the facilities are basic, unkempt, and in need of maintenance and cleaning, with some finding them overpriced for the standard offered. There were also comments on the site's appearance being scruffy.

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Liked We would really recommend Hunstanton Camping. We had a great welcome and pitched up in a perfect spot over looking the countryside. The campsite itself is in a brilliant location, a 2 minute walk to the beach!
Absolutely no problems with showers and toilet block, with lots of water spots across the site.

Electric optional grass campervan pitch

Liked The close proximity to the beach, which I suspects is why the price per night is os high.

Disliked Appearance of the while site was tatty and rundown. On entry we were welcomed with a truck loaded with rubbish, old washing machines etc, that stayed there throughout our stay. I appreciate perhaps a natural
Feel was wanted but the weeds, nettles etc were out if control. The showers were need of a complete overhaul, some were not working and that just left 2, one that had a blocked shower tray and the shower had ti be hand held, the water covered the floor and flowed out under the door !
We went off site for the day and when we got back our pitch had been reallocated, no apology made, but were reallocated another pitch, Nigel just said he gets lost as to who is where!
Whilst music playing is ok, there was no control over the volume and at some points we had 2-3 groups blasting put different music.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you appreciated the close proximity to the beach.

We are, however, deeply sorry that the overall appearance and condition of our site did not meet your expectations. Your description of the tatty and rundown appearance, the uncontrolled weeds and nettles, and the pile of rubbish is unacceptable. We are also very concerned about the issues you raised with our shower facilities, including the blocked tray, broken showers, and lack of functionality. This is a clear failure on our part, and we are investigating these issues immediately to prevent them from happening again.

We sincerely apologise for the mix-up with your pitch. This is a serious error in our booking process, and we are reviewing our procedures to ensure pitches are correctly allocated and managed. Nigel's comment was not an acceptable response, and we will be addressing this with our staff. We also apologise for the loud music, as we strive to maintain a peaceful environment for all our guests. We will be implementing stricter controls on music volume moving forward.

We understand your frustration and are truly sorry for the poor experience. Your detailed comments are invaluable as we work to make the necessary improvements to our site and services.

Electric optional grass campervan pitch (no awning)

Liked Nigel was a pleasant chap to deal with.

Disliked Unkempt site. Nettles and weeds everywhere. Very tatty. Old rusty bin lids strewn about the site used as fire pits. Which had burnt the grass. Dirty showers. Dirty building housing the toilets of which one didn’t flush. Several occasions using the facilities no toilet paper in any cubicles or hand towels. The taps ran so slowly you could barely wash your hands or brush your teeth. The washing up facilities were two sinks on some hard core. No cover over it. Gents toilets only had one sink with running water. 3 urinals and only two worked. All this for £56.50 a night. The worst site we’ve ever been on. However good location for walking.

From the manager: Thank you for your detailed feedback. We're happy to hear that Nigel was a pleasure to deal with, and that you found the location good for walking.

We are, however, deeply sorry that the condition of the campsite did not meet your expectations. The issues you've highlighted regarding the unkempt site, poorly maintained facilities, and lack of basic amenities are unacceptable. This is not the standard we aim for, and we are taking your comments very seriously.

We are already investigating and addressing the problems you mentioned, including the cleanliness and functionality of the toilets and showers, the slow-running taps, and the lack of essential supplies like toilet paper and hand towels. We are also working on tidying the grounds and removing the makeshift fire pits to prevent further damage to the grass.

Your comments are invaluable in helping us identify where we need to make significant improvements. We apologize for the poor experience and the high price for what you received. We hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a much better experience in the future.

Disliked The toilets and showers were a bit rustic / dated for me so I tried to give them a miss where possible.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the great views of the sunset and sunrise, the excellent location, the spaciousness of the site, and the friendly service. It's also great to know that the dishwashing sink was a useful feature for you.

We appreciate your honest feedback about our facilities. We apologise that the toilets and showers felt rustic and dated, and we understand your concern about the appearance of the entrance. This is not the impression we want to give our guests, and we are looking into ways to improve the overall tidiness and update our facilities. Your comments are very important as they help us prioritise areas for improvement.

We hope to see you again soon, and we're committed to making your next stay even better.

If beach access is your priority then it’s 10/10 but needs updating.

Disliked A little on the expensive side, toilet and shower blocks need updating (we had our own facilities in our van but would have expected a little better for the price)

Non-electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked The location is perfect for the beach which is really close, amazing sunsets. The campsite has a really friendly chilled out vibe. Toilets good not portaloos etc. We were there a week and toilets cleaned often. Early morning toilets had marks but I believe this due to people not using the toilet brush.

Disliked Would have liked hot water in the toilets for a quick wash. Quite expensive but a next to the beach campsite will be more expensive from my experience. Did get cramped at one point, but you could change the direction of your tent so as not to face the other tents. Campervan pitches are cheaper than tents (I'm not sure why) I have been here twice this year, and think next time I will come won't be in high season.

Local attractions

Nature fans rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes' drive) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash. Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species. Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
