  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

What customers say

This family-friendly campsite offers spacious pitches and a relaxed atmosphere, with animals like goats and birds proving popular with children. Facilities are generally clean, though some guests noted they are basic and could benefit from refurbishment. The site is well-located for canal walks and village access. While many enjoyed the amenities and friendly staff, noise from trains and occasional issues with cleanliness or facility availability were mentioned by a minority. Updates and improvements are ongoing.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Pick your own pitch worked well everyone was very sensible with their space and respectful of other’s space.
The bouncy castles and play area for the children were lovely in the sunshine, as were the goats.
The shop was well stocked, cheaply priced and had a decent range of things you might want without having to go anywhere. Didn’t use the bar but it seemed popular and well served. The food hut was nice for breakfast and dinner, quick friendly service.
The staff we met were all friendly and polite.
Really nice touch to be able to hire fire pits.
The canal is a really easy quick walk and was pretty to wander along.
A lovely bank holiday - really reasonably priced for what you got all around

Disliked The train was noisy - this wasn’t an issue for us, I understand it would be for some people. This did however set off dogs around us, so be warned it’s not the train noise you might want to worry about rather the dogs it’ll upset! We stayed over bank holiday sat-mon and I would say a train passed easily hourly every waking hour and into the later evening - often with horns playing.
The additional toilet barn was grassy, smelly and in need of an update/some attention really - however again, you are paying pennies for a pitch on a field so it kind of is what it is!
The shower blocks could do with some form of shelf/ledge/additional hooks within the cubicle itself - it was quite a challenge to shower and change with a child in the cubicle without getting any clothing wet or to hang the towel and toiletries out the way.
The main toilet block was quite dark and dingy - the girls were cleaned and the soap was definitely stocked while we were there however partner complained the boys was not a pleasant experience throughout.

16-amp electric grass pitch

Liked Good sized and flat pitches (we booked 2 together). Shop, bar, food and covered seating area on site.

Disliked Not enough toilets or showers for the amount of people on the site at a bank holiday weekend. No changing area/dry area for showers. Cleaning of toilets and showers was poor.

Liked Lovely big field with plenty of space to camp.
The pygmy goats and birds were a lovely treat for the children as was the park and bouncy castles.
The shop was well stocked and had everything and more you could need. The bar and the kitchen were also a great idea.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nothing apart from the animals were cute

Disliked First of all loud music and the smell of weed from pitches.
Extemely loud people with unruly kids that I was wacked with a frisbe and the parents did nothing. Balls hitting my tent and parents just let kids get on with it. I had a situation on the first night because this guy pulls up onto my pitch in a campervan clearly under the influence and starts talking to us which I felt was a complete encroach of our personal space so I phoned security he came down then promised me the guy was being removed first thing which I accepted but then he wasnt removed and when I went to reception to complain the next morning the staff laughed at me and denied saying anything about removing him claiming they were all friends! I felt this was totally unprofessional and disrespectful. Shop onsite was expensive and ground was full of pot holes has a very unsafe feeling given reception let anyone come onsite at any time and take drugs on site! The vibe was not nice at all in fact they seemed quite up themselves there. It was also falsely advertised that shops and pubs are within a short walk and they are not. The showers are terrible and dirty, grass all over floor and slugs up the walls and very pempermental. The toilets were filthy covered in blood round the seat. Overall this place was not the cozy relaxed vibe you would expect from camping but rather the sort of camping experience never to be relived. Avoid this place at all cost unless you want to feel stressed and uncomfortable. I am never returning!

From the manager: Wow! You called me at midnight saying a van had driven on to your pitch and you were being harassed by the driver. I was out within 2 minutes to resolve the issue.

We walked down to a van parked not on your pitch (over a pitch space between). The owner of the van was already in bed lights off. I got him out to find out what was going on. He was here for an event, which is happening next week, and he messed the dates up. He knew the organisers.

He did seem shaky and so I took his driving license and thought best to deal with in the morning as there was no threat and safer to drive in the morning.

After speaking to the promoter who knew him well, and also explained he has a condition rather than drunk. Also explained if he thought it was the event he was just being sociable before realising you weren’t part of it.

You came up first thing in the morning demanding I move him, even though not on your pitch. I could see he had clearly affected you and informed you to let me know as soon as he woke and I would do just that. I also explained the information above.

As managers we have to always consider all sides of the situation and fairly try and make everyone happy. Not too sure what we could of done better.

We class 5-10mins (max) as a short walk. Not sure many wouldn’t.

As for drugs, we were not made aware of this, nor witnessed it, otherwise we’d certainly have acted.

I would suggest taking a more positive outlook on life. Warping a situation so much that you then feel the need to harm a business with untrue statements of cleanliness etc is not healthy. Our many contrary reviews during your stay are hopefully compelling enough for customers to make their own decision here.

Really nice site, with helpful and friendly staff.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
