Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Great site with everything you need. I was only dipping in for a night on the way and left early but it looked like there was a nice vibe with lots of kids and their relaxed adults enjoying the beautiful autumn evening.

Disliked The showers could have an update and a shelf or somewhere to put things when you're showering.

Liked What an amazing, AMAZING place. Great place, great atmosphere, great staff... had the best weekend with my family. From the get go, the staff was helpful and friendly. Pitches are well looked after and brilliant sizes. Good value for money too. The site having goats was an extra bonus, along with the birds etc. The small facilities for the kids was an extra, well needed bonus. My highlight was the fact they allowed campfire. To be able to have smores with my kids was the best bit of the whole trip as not every site allows campires. I would recommend this place to everyone! Truly, lovely place. The little shop, well needed bar, hot foot, lovely covered seating area... it ticks all the boxes.

Disliked My only criticism... and its more because im not a fan of creepy crawlies... even though I love camping... is the amount of cobwebs and insects in the toilet & shower blocks and in the indoor seating area. Partly due to being outside and made of wood etc. But them dusted away would have been better for my peace of mind and my fears 😂
The only other downside *which cant be helped* is how noisy the trains are!

Liked Its a large campsite with lots of space and pitches.Facilities are kept clean. Small animals and aviary add interest. Close to canal so convenient for walks.

Disliked There are lots of loos but only three showers. The site was quiet when we were there so this wasn't an issue but I imagine it could be in high season.
A busy railway line passes the site so there is quite a lot of noise.

Liked Loved the atmosphere of the campsite and all the entertainment available to guests. Very relaxed and friendly. Didn't use the shower block but toilets we well kept. My little girl loved the bouncy castle and getting to visit the goats.
My husband loved how close the bar was to our pitch. All in all a really lovely and welcoming site.

Disliked The check in was quick but finding the right pitch was hard. Was sent to one area only to find all pitched were fully occupied. After going back to reception we very quickly had help finding a different option so although we were slightly inconvenienced we were well helped and it didn't take long to sort. Slightly odd smell in the toilets but they were very clean.

Liked Great little shop on site. Pizzas were good value and tasty. Nice addition with the outside seating area to enjoy them and a drink from the bar at. Enjoyed feeding the goats again. Nice play area and the bouncy castle is a big win! Always nice to be able to have a camp fire too.
Our third time visiting and would come again. Thank you!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked This place is always great.
A nice little getaway not too far from us. So it's perfect for a night away. Lovely walks along the canal and back for a pint either in the village or back at the site.
Plenty to keep the kids entertained, with bouncy castles, animals and play equipment.
This pace is spot on, and the price you cannot grumble at.

Disliked Nothing.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Large site with plenty of level parking. The prices for food and drinks are reasonable and the pizza was delicious.

Disliked The toilets and showers are tired and not that clean.

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes).
