  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

What customers say

This friendly campground has spacious sites and a relaxed vibe, great for families. Guests love the clean restrooms, on-site store, bar, and food. Kids enjoy the playground, bounce houses, and petting the goats and birds. Despite occasional train noise and some suggestions for restroom improvements, staff are welcoming and the value is excellent.

10-amp powered grass campsite

Liked This was a last-minute booking for us while travelling back from France, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised and ended up booking a second night.

The site was busy when we arrived but it quietened down nicely around 9pm. The food available was great quality and reasonably priced. The shop and bar is a fantastic bonus, with a well stocked shop that provides pretty much everything you may need. The toilets were clean and quirky. The showers were clean too, although they could do with a little freshen up, a coat of paint, but nothing major. The goats and birds are also a cute, quirky addition.

The extra night also gave us the perfect opportunity to visit Clarkson’s Farm and Pub, which was a great bonus and made the stopover even more worthwhile.

Overall, a really good find for a last-minute stop and somewhere we’d happily stay again.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Friendly people. Small shop and bar serving food.
You can sit in the shade and charge your phone for free. You can also freeze your cool packs.

Disliked The campsite was fully booked, and at that time there weren't enough showers and toilets—and they certainly weren't clean anymore. On quieter days, however, it was really clean.
The accessible toilet and shower shared the same space as the family shower. As a result, it wasn't always accessible to me as a person with a disability

Primitive grass campsite

Liked This is a wonderful campsite, the staff are friendly. They offer freshly made pizzas, and have a nice breakfast offer. Nice cold drinks and a little shop offering you stuff you might have left at home or need to top up on. Great atmosphare, a very happy place for kids too with a designated play area and a bouncy castle. There's a canal nearby which hosts permanently moored boats with very friendly people. There also a canalside pub you can stop at on the way to the picturesque village of Cropredy, all easily to access by foot along the Canalside.

Disliked What I did dislike, is the fact that they offer you WIFI, but say "Sorry mate it's been down since the World cup!" I've visited a couple of times since,
how about attempting to fix it? Especially because you are located somewhere where mobile telephone access seems is limited. Fix this and I'll gladly rate you 10 out of 10. Some of us need to be connected.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
