  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We picked a random area to go to for a weekend adventure and this was a great site to choose.
Family friendly site, a couple of play areas, bouncy castle, and goats ( feed to buy in the shop) and birds.
We were able to pitch close to the play area.
The shop, kitchen and bar are well stocked and there is a great outdoor seating area. The bar also plays some music in the evening but stops at a reasonable time. The children also loved hearing the train go by. Very friendly staff. Really easy to find the site.
Campfires are allowed if you purchase your fuel from the shop onsite

Disliked The toilets could do with a bit of maintenance, some of the seats in the ladies are broken and the doors don't shut properly.

Liked Great site, really welcoming and helpful. The shop is very reasonably priced and it was so easy to get a fire pit and wood from the reception. All facilities are good. And we loved the goats!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Really good facilities with a toilet and shower block. The burger and chips from the Kitchen were amazing and only £10. The bar sold a couple of lagers with Hook Norton on gravity. I didn't use the shop, but it looked well stocked. There was lots of covered outdoor seating and everything closed at 9pm so it wasn't too noisy after that. Easy access to the canal and pubs in Cropredy.

Disliked The trains going past were noisy but relatively infrequent so didn't spoil my stay at all. I had to hunt for the freshwater taps, but found them in the end. Not much of a view.

16-amp powered grass campsite

Liked Loved this site. Great for families had a really nice family run feel to the place. Decent sized site and the pitches were huge! Had a good play park and bouncy castle for the kids which was great but the best bit is the goats. They were so friendly and our kids absolutely loved them as well as all the birds and chickens. Had a nice little outdoor bar area with plenty of sheltered seating and had a good atmosphere everyone was happy and friendly. The bar was really reasonably priced too. The little shop on site was decently stocked and we even hired a fire pit one night which one only £12 and comes full of wood. Toilets and showers were nice and were always clean.

Liked Decent space with choice of electricity on pitch meaning you only pay for what you really need. Easy walk in to the nearby village with access to the canal.

Disliked Next to a very busy train line and the trains sound their horn very near to the site. Not a problem through the day but made sleeping near impossible.

Liked Everything. Good prices on site, staff were helpful, relaxed vibe.

Disliked Train noise, but nothing that could reasonably be helped and it didn’t keep us up.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Absolutely incredible campsite with fantastic activities and animals to see. My kids absolutely loved the bouncy castle with unlimited free usage as well as seeing the goats, birds, parrots and the park facilities. For the adults in our group we thoroughly enjoyed the food that was an option in the bar/kitchen.

The toilet & shower facilities were spot on also.

Disliked The only very small disappointment was on the Saturday morning the kitchen was closed but if you aren't planning on eating onsite and have you own set up then no problems at all.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
