  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

What customers say

This family-friendly campground has roomy sites and a laid-back vibe. Animals, a playground, and bouncy castles are big hits! The shop and food services are usually good and reasonably priced. While some noted train noise and dated washrooms, most guests loved the friendly staff, cleanliness, and value, and many want to come back.

6-amp powered grass campsite

Liked The Bouncing castles, children’s play area, animals and location were all fantastic. The site is very well presented and clean. There was a bar and shop on site serving food.

Disliked There was no ‘quiet time’ like in other sites we have visited. We were next to people in tents that were still playing music loudly at 11-12pm.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Quiet time is advertised from 9pm, and I enforce from 10pm. I asked a few campers on my 10pm walkabout to turn music off, and half an hour later at 11pm didn’t come across any offenders. Not to say they didn’t see me coming and I couldn’t hear the music from a distance - which is rare. However my number is readily available and advertised to help in these situations, unfortunately I can only help if I’m aware of a situation.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely site that is very family friendly. A great choice of pitches and close to the amenities. It was a bonus having the animals and so much wildlife all around us. We took a walk along the local canal and went into the local village which had a nice cafe and pubs. The site had a bar and takeaway food which priced very reasonably, also a shop with essentials and bits to entertain the kids. You can hire fire pits and buy the fuel on site, nice to sit around on an evening. The staff were very friendly and lovely to have a chat with.

16-amp powered grass campsite

Liked First time visiting and we were really impressed. We received a warm welcome on arrival, the pitches were a great size, and the facilities were exactly what we needed.

The bar was a real highlight, with a great atmosphere and excellent music. Our daughter especially loved meeting the goats and spending time watching the birds in the aviary.

Despite the site being quite busy, it had a wonderfully relaxed, chilled-out vibe and the evenings were peaceful. There was a brief spell of loud music from a larger group one evening, but the owner dealt with it straight away and everything quickly settled down again.

Overall, a fantastic stay and we'll definitely be returning. Highly recommended!

Disliked The trains were noisy throughout the night - nothing the campsite can do about that, so more an FYI if you're a light sleeper. (Won't put us off going back)

10-amp powered grass campsite

Liked Really liked: -
- unregimented approach, so groups could set themselves up.
- facilities for children.
- on site shop and takeaway options.
- rustic nature in keeping with expectations.
- ice cream van

Disliked Dislikes: -
- when the site was full, at the main washing up point by the child’s play area there was no hot water from Friday night to Sunday.

Liked Didn’t stay there in the end

Disliked This was a bit of an unfortunate encounter. We booked on the pith up site mid afternoon to stay here that night. Put Old Dairy Farm into Google maps which took us to Old Dairy Farm Camping and Caravanning an hour away. Messaged these guys to let them know our mistake and could we cancel and refund rather than back track an hour especially as we’d only booked a few hours before. No go. But that wasn’t the worst. When I went back with a shrugged shoulder response and said I should warn others on the review (about getting the address right) Keon lost his sh*t. Rudest reply ever. Clearly was having a bad day. Well Keon, I would encourage people to drive an hour further up the road to a lovely little place called Old Dairy Farm Camping and Caravanning who were super kind and helpful and went out their way to accommodate us even though we didn’t have a booking with them. Travelling is stressful and tiring and when you are in a different country to your own, a lot to understand, especially when there are multiple camp grounds with an almost identical name. We have had a wonderful experience with everyone we have encountered since we’ve been in the UK with the exception only of this guy. Customer service not his strong suit.

Liked Very friendly owners, nice and clean bath facilities, loved to wake up with the goats

I was there when it was rarely booked and only for one short night, so I can't give a full review.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
