The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: Goat enclosure

General

  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés

Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury.

That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime.

Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering).

Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates.

In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

Really friendly owners/managers (not sure which). The kids loved the animals dotted around the site (they were feeding and stroking the goats) and were really happy to stroke an owl and be shown the others in their cages. The play area was well maintained and saw a lot of use by the children in our group.

Toilet block was nice and clean (love the taps in there by the way) and being able to use a fire pit is a bonus, especially on a chilly night at New Year.

Red Lion pub in the village was nice and friendly too, just watch your head!!

    Disliked:

Getting stuck in the mud, could really do with hard standing pitches for when the weather isn't great as there's obviously an issue with drainage on the site, but at least it meant we got to see a lovely old tractor in action a lot this weekend.

Friendly, relaxed and beautiful surroundings. The team there are passionate about conservation and we were able to meet their birds of prey that live on site.
The village is friendly, with an amazing pub to eat in, and an amazing pub to party in.

    Disliked:

It was NYE, driving rain and no hard standing. We went with it, and it was a mud bath, but….will be back in a flash during the spring and summer.

    Wonderful stay.
Although the site is fairly basic (no hard standing pitches) We really had a wonderful time again. The staff make you feel so welcome and enthusiastically invite you to visit all the animals on site including the amazing bird houses with owls, parrots and various birds of prey, goats and pigs etc. The kids absolutely loved it! Although we did get stuck on the field (camping in January) being towed out with the lovely old tractor became part of the fun! Its in a lovely little village with 2 smashing little pubs.(we found The Red Lion to be the friendliest) .We will be celebrating next new year eve there if not before! Oh and on a practical note the toilets, showers etc were modern and very clean.

Lovely compact but spacious site with great facilities and layout. Nice rustic feel, with character and attention to detail. Very good sized pitches allowing privacy. We stayed New Years Eve so weather was a challenge but can imagine how great it would be to stay here in warmer months. Campfires allowed which was part of our criteria. Easy walking distance to Cropredy Village, we ate at The Brasenose Arms, food was really good, had a wander around the village which is very picturesque and nice church grounds. Would highly recommend.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car.

Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes).

For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).

Must see

  • Compton Verney (17.1 kilometres)
  • Silverstone Circuit (20.6 kilometres)
  • Stowe Landscape Gardens (22.3 kilometres)

  • Farnborough Hall (5.1 kilometres)
