Great quiet stop for the self contained

Aug 2026

Liked The pitches at this site are amazing. Unusually large with hard standing, a large grassed area and high hedges making them feel very secluded. Each pitch has an electric hook up and a water tap. Most are fairly level. We did use ramps but could have got away without them. Great location with walks directly on site around the fishery. It was very quiet with only a couple of other campers. Adults only but dogs are allowed on leads. There are no facilities for dogs. There are no facilities on site so you need to be self contained. No showers, toilets, washing up area or grey waste disposal. This is made clear when booking. There is an Elsan point which looks quite new. Joanne was very helpful and responsive to messages.

Disliked Not really a dislike - just a comment for the owners. It wouldn’t take much to turn this from a good site to an excellent site. The bin situation was confusing. Lots of bins in one place, but nothing labelled for recycling. A grey waste disposal point would lengthen the amount of time people can stay. The map on site doesn’t make clear where it’s ok to go. Signs which had fallen down appeared to ask walkers to not go beyond certain points, but when we enquired it was ok to walk along the rough road. Obviously the addition of toilets - which there are adjacent to the site but not for campers use - would also increase the popularity of the place. We liked it though and would come again for a day or two.

Fine for a night or two to visit the area.

Jul 2026

Liked A small campsite next to a pleasant pub. Booked through pitch up and turned up about 2 hours later. Rural location. We were the only ones there. EHU for about 8 ish. Pub was open and had lots of room to sit outside. Unfortunately unable to eat there as they had an electrical problem in the week prior. Menu looked good though! Toilet and shower available with a code. No light at night though - probably leftover from the electrical problems. Toilet emptying available. Outside tap. Fine for one or two nights.

Disliked Toilet and shower were basic. Needs a bit of tidying up and the electrics sorting (possibly already in hand). The grass pitch was nice as we were the only one, but if all EHUs were used, it would be very cramped unless the intent was to spread out over the carpark.

Good to use as a base

Jul 2024

Liked Location - great for exploring. Hosts - very friendly and informative. Had produced same great walking guides and information about the area. Dog friendly. Bins and water provided. Dogs allowed in the bar etc. Site kept really clean and tidy. Great kids play area. Lovely bar and food area. Shower rooms are all private. Great dog walks from the site. Free WiFi but it is very weak.

Disliked Very cramped. We had a fully serviced pitch which wasn’t the largest they do, but not the smallest. All the pitches back on to each other with no views. They are growing privacy bushes inbetween but we missed having a view. Dog run is in dire need of a revamp. The fencing is very low and coming down in places. The gate is flimsy. The ground is dirt only. Very dark and unappealing. We only used it 3 times and preferred to walk off site - which is very easy to do. Toilet doors bang shut at night. (We were on a pitch close by!)

We would return!

Jul 2023

Liked The site is spacious and kept very clean. Shower blocks are good. The showers turn off early so you have to keep the button pressed in. But it’s not bad by any stretch. The lights are on automatic and don’t come on early enough, so it’s dark in there some days. This lost a star for me. Reception is open 9-5 and has some basic foodstuffs which is handy. Cider shop also on site! Local village is walkable but on country lanes. We got great reception on Vodaphone. We would definitely visit again.

Disliked Lights not on early enough in shower block in the field.

Lovely site and owners. Great location.

Jul 2022

Liked Clean and well maintained all over the site. Excellent showers. Owners on site are friendly, very helpful and knowledgeable. They have food items available to purchase and some of the usual camping consumables. (Note it’s green chemical disposal only which they do sell on site too.) I did see a review where someone said their dogs weren’t welcome. This is not our experience! Mick pointed out lots of dog friendly walks from the site as soon as we arrived and the owners have their own dogs. This was possibly a misunderstanding? The information supplied does stress good behaviour and common sense. Not everyone likes dogs so they shouldn’t be noisy or allowed to roam anyway. We were a bit nervous about the meter charged electric, as we have never had this before and had no idea what we use! Shouldn’t have worried at all. Total cost was 47p for two days in a campervan! The site has lots of opportunities to walk nearby. Fishing on site. Convenient for Coningsby airfield where we saw the Lancaster, Spitfire and a Hurricane take off! Also we were lucky to find Thorpe Camp Visitor centre nearby who had a 1940s weekend. Lovely people all round.

Disliked Nothing.

A great campsite but not much in the immediate area to do

Apr 2022

Liked Very well maintained park. Pitches are really well spaced with thoughtful planting around each area for privacy. Located underneath the quarry. Manager was really nice and kept the place immaculate. Showers and washing up area the best I have ever used.

Disliked Not really relating to the site, but the town itself is really run down.

Beautiful location for a relaxing stay. Good base to explore.

Apr 2022

Liked Location. Set on the side of a river with very well looked after pitches. Plenty of communal spaces with nice touches. Free wifi. Washing machine And tumble drier. Washing up facilities. Managers were really friendly and laid back.

Disliked Female showers. Really small and badly designed. Not enough space to put your clothes if you want to keep them dry. Apparently the mens was a lot better.

Excellent site, clean and a bit different to the norm!

Jan 2022

Liked Location is amazing. Very well presented. Bar and shop prices very very reasonable. Well looked after rescue animals are lovely to see. The owners are lovely. Really made to feel welcome.

Disliked Crow scarers go off all day and meant our dogs who don’t like bangs, wouldn’t go out! Sadly much as we would LOVE to go back, it will not be with our dogs.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thankyou for a lovely review. Sorry about bird scarers. They are away from our site on a nearby farm, of which we have no control. They are extremely seasonal and aren't normally there. We are normally a haven from upsetting noises. We completely understand and appreciate your feedback.

Top site would visit again!

May 2021

Liked Great location. Pitches are spacious, and well marked. Some great walks straight from your door. Great views. Feels secure. Facilities were brilliant. Great showers and toilets. Outside sinks for pot washing. Plenty of water taps near pitches. Top marks!! The golf club house were very accommodating, we sat outside with our 2 dogs. Lady in charge offered to stay open later for us to watch the football! Really friendly.

Disliked Nothing to dislike about the site. Shame the local pub was currently closed. But hopefully that will be righted soon!

Relying on the location for the money.

May 2021

Liked Location. Handy for the lakes. Friendly owner.

Disliked Only one shower and toilet. No wifi. (Plus and minus!) The pitches aren’t pretty and need some upgrading. Hard standing was rubble and twine and plastic bags. It looked scruffy. But with some money and care it could look great. Farm dogs (?kennel/breeding?) noisy all night. Could have been bad timing.
