General

  • Peaceful touring park 10 minutes' walk from central Blaenau Ffestiniog
  • Portmeirion, Harlech Castle and Snowdon within a half-hour drive
  • A short walk from the heritage railway, ZipWorld and Bounce Below

To some it’s famed for its historic steam trains and slate caverns; to others it’s a buzzing hive of outdoorsy activities. But whatever brings you to Blaenau Ffestiniog, it's a good bet to bag a berth at Quarry View Touring Park.

This quiet touring park has been set up with life’s essentials in mind: a picnic area provides a place for open-air eats, and there’s a washing-up area, chemical disposal point and a waste area with recycling bins. Likewise, the shower blocks have been thoughtfully kitted out: benches and hooks save your clobber from damp patches and there are shaver points and a hairdryer to keep you looking dapper.

Any amenities that aren’t on site are most likely available nearby: it’ll take you 10 minutes or so to trot into town for shops, a cinema, pubs and takeaways or to board a train from the station (regular services run from here to Llandudno and Betws-y-Coed as well as the heritage line to Porthmadog).

Looking to explore further afield? An excellent idea – you’re in a nifty location here, being less than half an hour’s drive from ZipWorld, the underground trampoline park at Bounce Below, Portmeirion, Harlech Castle and the many alfresco antics around Snowdonia National Park.

The BEST campsite we have ever used! It was beautiful and extremely clean! The bathrooms were beautifully designed and super clean with no bugs (that a major thing for us!) the showers were AMAZING the rainfall shower head made it! Janet and John were both extremely friendly and helpful and even lent us an electric hook up cable after our friends forgot to give one to us for the camper! We would definitely recommend the campsite to our friends and also would love to come back again in the future!

Very friendly owners, Janet and John, lovely large pitch, easy to reverse into.
Each pitch has gravel and grass so somewhere to put out your chairs and tables. Shower block very clean and tidy.
Plenty of water points and easy to use Elsan point as well as a drive over grey waste point.
Excellent! would definitely stay here again, the views over the old slate workings were fascinating.
Considering how close the A470 was it was amazingly quiet.

Lovely site with very clean and welcoming shower block. The pitch was perfectly level. The staff were very friendly and helpful and maintain the site to an excellent standard. The location of the site is perfect, remote but not too far from local shops in Porthmadog such as Tesco was a 15 minute drive away. Stunning waterfalls and walks nearby. I would highly recommend a trip to snowdonia natural slate products they are amazing.

    Disliked:

The entrance to the site is a sharp left turn onto a very steep hill. Not very practical for caravans being towed. This was the only thing we disliked.

Local attractions

Even if you’re not much of a train buff, it’s worth taking a trip on the Ffestiniog Railway – the steam-powered services take in some of Snowdonia’s most spectacular scenery as they wend their way down to the coast at Porthmadog. If you’ve got an appetite for more, connect here for the Welsh Highland Railway all the way up to Caernarfon.

If you’d like to explore under your own steam, there are heaps of hikes in the surrounding Snowdonia National Park (Snowdon itself’s only a few miles away) and you’re a few minutes’ amble from the Antur Stiniog mountain bike trails, with an uplift service that’s been tipped as the country’s best.

Not enough adrenaline yet? The site is a 10-minute stroll from ZipWorld Titan (where you’ll fly along two kilometres of zipline) and the underground adventure park in an old slate cavern at Bounce Below.

Calm that heart rate a little by heading coastwards for a trip to pretty Portmeirion or a wander around the castle and beach in Harlech – both are about half an hour away by car.
