Quarry View Touring Park: All parked and ready to adventure

General

  • Peaceful touring park 10 minutes' walk from central Blaenau Ffestiniog
  • Portmeirion, Harlech Castle and Snowdon within a half-hour drive
  • A short walk from the heritage railway and ZipWorld adventure centre

To some it’s famed for its historic steam trains and slate caverns; to others it’s a buzzing hive of outdoorsy activities. But whatever brings you to Blaenau Ffestiniog, it's a good bet to bag a berth at Quarry View Touring Park.

This quiet touring park has been set up with life’s essentials in mind: a picnic area provides a place for open-air eats, and there’s a washing-up area, chemical disposal point and a waste area with recycling bins. Likewise, the shower blocks have been thoughtfully kitted out: benches and hooks save your clobber from damp patches and shaver points and a hairdryer will keep you looking dapper. And although there's no wifi on site, the presence of three mobile phone masts nearby means that most guests should be able to access 4G services.

Any amenities that aren’t on site are most likely available nearby: it takes 10 minutes or so to walk into town for shops, a cinema, pubs and takeaways or to board a train from the station (regular services run from here to Llandudno and Betws-y-Coed as well as the heritage line to Porthmadog). Also within walking distance are the adrenaline activities at Titan ZipWorld and Bounce Below, both set up in repurposed slate caverns.

Looking to explore further afield? An excellent idea – this nifty location is under half an hour’s drive from Portmeirion, Harlech Castle and Snowdonia National Park.

the site is in a lovely spot just on the outskirts of the town and high st, lovely large pitches with plenty of room to expand , toilets were top notch and spotless, the owners could not do enough for you and ensured everyone was totally happy, whilst we were there someone complained about a dog barking all night but we were next door and heard nothing, the owners however were most upset that someone was not happy, beyond their control if you ask me but says alot about how serious the complaint was taken

    Disliked:

the only thing i would say is the site is tight so if you dont do reversing or have a mover think twice but i would not let this put me off, just practice

Lovely site. We only booked about 3 hours prior to arrival as we were touring Wales in our campervan. Slightly awkward entrance but no problem if you're a competent driver. Probably the most level pitch we have stayed at. Very nice shower & toilet block, nothing has been overlooked. Dish washing area also excellent. Had to wander around to find somewhere to walk the dog but found a nice footpath down the road by crossing the railway line just 2 minutes walk from the site. Reasonable price that include facilities, EHU & freshwater. Very clean chemical disposal and waste & recycling area. Owner obviously takes great pride in her site as we saw her outside sweeping up at 10:30pm! 10 minute walk into town for fish and chips. We didn't use WiFi so cannot comment on that but 4G signal was excellent.

This is such a good camp site! So clean, tidy, everything is easy to find and the facilities are the best I've seen on a camp site. Close walk to local amenities and nice and quiet. Exactly what we needed after hiking in the hills.

Local attractions

Even if you’re not much of a train buff, it’s worth taking a trip on the Ffestiniog Railway – the steam-powered services take in some of Snowdonia’s most spectacular scenery as they wend their way down to the coast at Porthmadog. If you’ve got an appetite for more, connect here for the Welsh Highland Railway all the way up to Caernarfon.

If you’d like to explore under your own steam, there are heaps of hikes in the surrounding Snowdonia National Park – Snowdon itself is just a few miles away, or you may prefer a quieter clamber up Crimpiau from Capel Curig or a circuit of Llyn Idwal from Ogwen Cottage for something a bit less leg-busting (both routes about half an hour's drive). The site is also a few minutes’ amble from the Antur Stiniog mountain bike trails, with an uplift service that’s been tipped as the country’s best.

Not enough adrenaline yet? The site is also a 10-minute stroll from Titan ZipWorld (to fly along two kilometres of zipline) and the underground adventure park in an old slate cavern at Bounce Below.

Calm that heart rate a little by heading coastwards for a trip to pretty Portmeirion or a wander around the castle and beach in Harlech – both are about half an hour away by car.

Must see

  • Portmeirion Gardens (14.1 kilometres)

National Trust
