General

  • Scenic caravan site set in 50 acres’ worth of lakes and woodland
  • On the edge of the Peak District, a 20-minute drive from Bakewell

The park is also 25 minutes from Ladybower reservoir for roams around spectacular spots like the Upper Derwent valley.

Walks are, of course, cracking on site as well with 50 acres to adventure around. Guests can also drag the dog along on dawdles as Barlow Country Club is a pet-friendly place.

Very large well maintained pitches totally private as bordered by conifer hedging.
Lovely quiet location with beautiful country walks along the fishing lakes and into woodland.
    Very picturesque scenery.
Lots of tourist attractions within 30 mins drive.

    Disliked:

Lack of signage to camp site. Owner said this is on his to do list. Directions given by Pitchup could be clearer. Surrounding roads are very narrow and difficult to turn around with a 9 metre motorhome towing a Fiat 500 so campers with large units beware!

Shop closed - not sure why.
Toilet & washing facilities closed due to Covid.
I felt the cost is overpriced considering all facilities are closed.

What a great site water and electric on each pitch, each pitch is nice and private with minimal levelling up to do.
The couple that own the site are nice and friendly and just leave you to get on with you stay.
The walks around the site and fishing lakes are fantastic.
Great friendly pubs within walking distance.
All in all a great place to stay.

    Disliked:

    Lack of signage.

Just a little note though, when your Sat Nav says you have arrived, look right or left, it looks like you are going onto some ones drive as the signage isn’t very good, LOOK FOR THE OVAL PLAQUE ON THE WALL.

Lovely scenery, well kept, big, private pitches. Good walks around area. Two local pubs, both walking distance and both serve food.
Lovely cafe on site, which we only found by chance.
    Quiet and peaceful.

    Disliked:

No local shops at all, so stock up if you don't want to drive.
    Hard to find.
A map of site would have been nice, as we only came across cafe by chance, think this is a missed opportunity for the site.

Nice site but over priced.24/08/2020

  • Liked:

The pitches are very large, with high hedges for privacy. Water tap and EHU on each pitch. Good access once on the site. Friendly owners. Good walks from the site.

    Disliked:

Trying to find the site is really stressful, signage is poor and can only be seen if travelling from one direction. Google directions takes you to a dead end in a housing estate, turning round is tricky, we had to ring the owner for directions. When I mentioned about signage, he replied it was on order but I'm sure I read that on a previous post. The pitches whilst large lacked attention, the first pitch we went to had dog poo on the grass, not the owners fault but I would have expected it to have been cleaned up. There were brambles and stinging nettles close to the water taps, I got stung. There wasn't any hand sanitiser on the site, I would have expected there to have been some by the gates, bins and black waste disposal. Whilst my points may seem trivial, when charging £30 per night I expect better. I think it's over priced.

Local attractions

Checking out Chatsworth House (20 minutes’ drive) is a must while you’re here – this stately home is set in vast parkland edged by woodland, craggy hills and heather moors, so it’s an excellent choice for explores on foot. Inside the posh pad is a sizeable collection of art, ranging from Old Master drawings to neoclassical sculptures.

Bakewell – yes, home of the tasty tarts – is also a sweet spot for a stroll thanks to having old cottages, tiny alleys and tucked-away courtyards to totter around, as well as a river to rove beside (20 minutes).

If you’re an eager trekker seeking more of a challenge, mosey along the Monsal Trail starting from Coombs Viaduct, a mile south east of Bakewell, and leading 8.5 miles to Topley Pike junction in Wye Dale, passing by Peak District hotspots like Headstone Viaduct, Cressbrook Mill and Litton Mill enroute.

Further on (around 50 minutes) are other popular places for pottering around, like Dovedale valley with its wooded ravine and the 517-metre Mam Tor hill near Castleton, christened one of the Seven Wonders of the Peak by 17th-century philosopher Thomas Hobbes because of its dreamy views.
