General

  • Remote and rural site in the Lincolnshire countryside
  • Home to many rescue animals including hens, pigs, geese and ducks
  • Well-stocked fishing lake

What a lush site this is for gainful countryside holidays in the Lincolnshire countryside, whiling days away fishing, woodland walking and just lazing by the lakeside with open book or one's very own thoughts.

There are animals too… Small and family-run Sunflower Park near Gainsborough has taken in quite a few rescue animals in their time (they're a friendly and welcoming lot here), so on site you'll meet the three family pets as well as several ex-battery hens and their strutting cockerel. Also adopted are a family of geese, ducks, Kunekune pigs and a couple of Gloucester old spots: do make sure to say hi to all.

As you might guess, this is a relaxed and amiable site, set remotely and rurally on a five-acre plot that includes paddocks, a playground, open pastureland, a private woodland walk and a well-stocked fishing lake exclusively for guests' use.

You might reckon the park's remote rural setting makes it a wildlife haven too, and you'd reckon right: its boundaries run directly into Laughton Forest's Tuetoes Wood, a Forestry Commission nature haven for walking and cycling among the trees, and home to wildlife like deer, foxes, owls, rabbits, jays, pheasants, cuckoos, woodpeckers – all within viewable and hearing distance from your pitch.

Sunflower Park has toilets, showers, a drying room, a launderette and ice pack freezing. Firepits are available for hire for the whole of guests' stays and arrive full and ready to light.

with regards the goose muck.
this time of year we are normally mowing every couple of days as well as having some rain.
both breaks down the natural goose muck. we did mow before your arrival, much to the amusement of some guests. they knew the grass hasn't grown to warrant mowing but we told them exactly why we were mowing and that was to break down the goose muck.
It is only chopped grass and harmless but never the less we do try to collect or breakdown what we can. apologies if this affected your stay.
Thanks again for taking the time to review Sunflower. see you again

Great campsite for a relaxing family break 16/07/2018

Great for walks in the adjacent woods with our dogs (spray yourself with mossie repellent first though if there's no wind!). There's also plenty of full afternoon walks that can take in a pub break judging by the OS map.

Breakfast bar on-site. Reasonable phone signal if you need it.

Kids loved the animal rescue residents (geese, goats, donkey's, etc).

Dog exercising area. Dark skies if you like star gazing. No major roads so no road noise.

Overall, a good vibe on this campsite.

    Disliked:

10 min drive to nearest dog friendly pub (the Black Horse in Blyton) where they serve good pub food, but if you're cooking on the campsite this isn't an issue. The nearest pub the Ingram Arms has a big 'No Dogs' sign on the door. Obviously not a problem if you're dog free.

From the manager...

Thankyou for leaving this very kind review.
With regards a dog friendly pub. This weekend we informed people on site and via facebook that after a very lengthy closure, new owners had refurbished and opened the Jenny Wren pub, part of which is dog friendly. This is only approx 10-15 mins walk. or 2 mins drive. Much closer than the Ingram Arms
some of our guests went this weekend and like us strongly recommend it for a good pint.
they are also doing food shortly.
Hope to see you again and you can sample the Jenny Wren for yourselves

The best campsite my 6 year old daughter has ever been on. Chickens, turkeys, ducks, wandering around freely, 2 donkeys and goats that are really tame and like being fed oak leaves. A little cafe which does a great fry up for breakfast. A lovely ethos, a very warm welcome and a really pretty campsite with a little lake.

We stayed here for 2 nights and found the site the best we have stayed on so far. It is very friendly and welcoming and the showers and facilities are spotlessly clean and even have a hairdryer and shaver point.
We loved meeting all the beautiful, friendly rescued pets especially Dick and Harry the donkeys and the 2 goats. We will certainly go back and am sure that there will be some new rescued pets to meet. The site is very rural and surrounded by forest and has a lovely woodland area surrounding a fishing lake which was nice to sit by and watch the ducks and geese having a swim. We had a very relaxing couple of days and would recommend it to anyone, especially animal lovers like ourselves.

    Disliked:

very very kind. we love visitors enjoying our animals. but we enjoy more visitors that our animals enjoy. its all about mutual respect and thta is what you brought.
some visitors forget our animals are at their home. you didnt do this. we provide a fantastic living for all our animals. thankyou for respect this and having a great time in doing so

Local attractions

Walkers, hikers, cyclists, energetic runners and nature spotters have Tuetoes Wood right beside Sunflower Park, the Forestry Commission-managed and publicly accessible part of vast Laughton Forest.

If you're an avid animal fan, take time to get to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park just outside Doncaster, home to a menagerie of over 300 from around the world, and to The Deep at Hull, one of the biggest aquariums in the UK and a habitat for over 3000 marine critters.

Going south, history buffs can get to Lincoln for eleventh century Lincoln Cathedral, the third biggest in Britain after St Paul's in London and York Minster. Lincoln Castle is also well worth a look, to gaze geekily upon one of the four original remaining copies of the Magna Carta.
