Picnic Area

General

  • Peaceful park in the centre of the Cheshire canal network
  • 100-acre site five miles from Nantwich with easy access from the M6
  • Heated amenities; barbecue and picnic areas; café with licensed bar

You might reckon that this Cheshire site is right near some water. And you'd go to the top of the class, for Aqueduct Marina Caravan Park is on the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, in the centre of the Cheshire canal network and surrounded by towpath for waterside walks. Or might you just fancy sitting by the marina and watching the canal boats drift lazily by? (All the better to plot which type you're going to acquire when that lottery win is yours, all yours.)

Other lazy options at this peaceful Nantwich park include the barbecue and picnic areas, or lounging around in the Galley café which has a licensed bar and monthly social events. The many shops, cafés and pubs of market town Nantwich are a five-mile drive away for lazy urban afternoons.

Aqueduct Marina is set on 100 acres of peaceful Cheshire farmland, with easy access to the M6 and off the B5074 in Church Minshull, near Chester and north Wales. Families, couples, small groups and dogs are all welcome.

As well as the barbecue and picnic areas, the park owners have also added a secure night-time barrier, CCTV, a DIY servicing bay and a recycling compound. A licensed bar is on site with monthly social events on the last weekend of the month.

Amenities are bang up to date on site too and include showers and toilets with underfloor heating and hairdryers, as well as a laundry room with washing machine, dryer and ironing table.

Please note

The bar and/or restaurant is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

Group bookings of 10 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The café is open from 9.30am until 4pm Monday to Sunday.

Showers and toilet facilities are very good, however they are detached from the touring site. The facilities form part of the marine services and it’s obvious the touring site is not the main focus. Cosmetically it is very poor with little attention to kerb appeal. This detachment makes the pitches feel like staying on a car park rather than a touring site. There is also no footpaths on leaving the site and there is a feeling of isolation with no pub etc within walking distance, the location is not on a bus route. A taxi service is available for local towns approximately 5 miles away.

    Disliked:

Was given the wrong pitch as someone had took ours..asked to move to another as we couldnt put awning up due to being gravel with concrete underneath. Told no even though someone had took ours. The water supply didnt work so had to go and get from another pitch..£1 emergency credit on electric..had to hook up electric to another pitch. Pitches are not full serviced as we had to connect to others No information or signage to where the shower blocks/ toilets were. Wifi wouldnt connect. Nothing really there apart from narrow boats and a cafe thats only open till 4.30pm. Felt like i was just stuck in a car park. Staff werent very friendly. I have stayed at far better sites for half the price.

Very expensive for what is on offer. Facilities basic and some distance from pitches. Booked online for 4 people and phoned a few hours later to say I made a mistake and it is only 2 people but was informed I could not change the booking and lost £20. It therefore cost me £100 for 4 people for two nights! Right on the canal but walking routes were very limited. Wont be going back.

Local attractions

Aqueduct Marina Caravan Park's Cheshire location and easy access from the M6 means it's in a most handy spot to get to heaps of tourist attractions around this part of the north west and Chester.

A popular option in the area is Oulton Park, the racing track in the little village of Budworth that bills itself as the most picturesque track in all the land, or you could hike around the wilds of nearby Delamere Forest, or stick to lazy days and potter around small Cheshire villages like Tattenhall and Tarpoley.

Chester is also easily accessible from the caravan park and has heaps to see among its old streets and swish shops. Animal fans make their way to Chester Zoo on the outskirts of the city to see as many as possible of its 12,000+ animals and over 400 species; if nature is your animalish thing, also get along to the Blue Planet Aquarium and its 100 or so living displays including the biggest school of sharks in Europe.

Green fingered? Clear the car boot and drive over to Bridgemere, one of the biggest garden centres in the world and with all things gardenlike as well as toys and clothes in its mammoth shopping centre.
