Picnic Area

General

  • Peaceful park in the centre of the Cheshire canal network
  • 100-acre site five miles from Nantwich with easy access from the M6
  • Heated amenities; barbecue and picnic areas; café with licensed bar

You might reckon that this Cheshire site is right near some water. And you'd go to the top of the class, for Aqueduct Marina Caravan Park is on the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, in the centre of the Cheshire canal network and surrounded by towpath for waterside walks. Or might you just fancy sitting by the marina and watching the canal boats drift lazily by? (All the better to plot which type you're going to acquire when that lottery win is yours, all yours.)

Other lazy options at this peaceful Nantwich park include the barbecue and picnic areas, or lounging around in the Galley café which has a licensed bar and monthly social events. The many shops, cafés and pubs of market town Nantwich are a five-mile drive away for lazy urban afternoons.

Aqueduct Marina is set on 100 acres of peaceful Cheshire farmland, with easy access to the M6 and off the B5074 in Church Minshull, near Chester and north Wales. Families, couples, small groups and dogs are all welcome.

As well as the barbecue and picnic areas, the park owners have also added a secure night-time barrier, CCTV, a DIY servicing bay and a recycling compound. A licensed bar is on site with monthly social events on the last weekend of the month.

Amenities are bang up to date on site too and include showers and toilets with underfloor heating and hairdryers, as well as a laundry room with washing machine, dryer and ironing table.

Please note

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Group bookings of 10 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Tents are not accepted at this park.

The café is open from 9.30am until 4pm Monday to Sunday.

Electricity and water on tap next to pitch and rubbish/grey water very close. Lovely flat site, very clean and smart. Great info email sent a few days in advance, meaning no trip to reception on arrival - felt very COVID safe. Toilet/shower facilities were immaculate and empty when we had a quick trip to them. Duck pond was a fun treat.

    Disliked:

Covid spoiled a visit to cafe (could book though) No activities for children to explore solo due to proximity of water.

    Not really suitable for Motorhomes
No safe cycle track of roads, or even walking paths without having to go on a very busy road with no foot path to get to canal path other side of marina.
Cafe closet at 4pm, no other good outlets near by
Having to walk through a public car park and passed the cafe to get to toilet/shower block

Nothing to do apart from watching the boats. Cafe didn't open until 10.00am so too late for breakfast, and was closed again when we wanted something i the evening.

Also, no Pub within walking distance.

From the manager...

Thank you for reviewing your stay. Our cafe is open from 9:30am - 4:00pm daily, as advertised in our booking system. We pride ourselves in providing a very peaceful atmosphere, but you can be sure to find nearby attractions via car :)

    Marina

    Disliked:

The marina was lovely, clean tidy and picturesque. I feel however that the touring park was merely an add on, with a barrier that banged each time someone entered or left the marina which really hampered the peace and quiet. The park could do with being made as pretty as the marina.

The site is very pleasant situated. It is flat & easy to access. The pitches are a good size.

    Disliked:

We took our grandchildren (6&11) with us for a short break & we would not recommend this site if you have children. There are no play facilities or an area where they could play ball games at all and it certainly wouldn't be safe to let the children explore because of the canal basin. It really would be more appropriate if this was an adult only site as it doesn't feel child friendly. The situation of the site is pleasant however the road into the site is exceptionally busy with large vans, heavy lorries & cars going in to the commercial units based there. The facilities are clean & well presented but are quite a way from the touring area especially for anyone with mobility issues.

Local attractions

Aqueduct Marina Caravan Park's Cheshire location and easy access from the M6 means it's in a most handy spot to get to heaps of tourist attractions around this part of the north west and Chester.

A popular option in the area is Oulton Park, the racing track in the little village of Budworth that bills itself as the most picturesque track in all the land, or you could hike around the wilds of nearby Delamere Forest, or stick to lazy days and potter around small Cheshire villages like Tattenhall and Tarpoley.

Chester is also easily accessible from the caravan park and has heaps to see among its old streets and swish shops. Animal fans make their way to Chester Zoo on the outskirts of the city to see as many as possible of its 12,000+ animals and over 400 species; if nature is your animalish thing, also get along to the Blue Planet Aquarium and its 100 or so living displays including the biggest school of sharks in Europe.

Green fingered? Clear the car boot and drive over to Bridgemere, one of the biggest garden centres in the world and with all things gardenlike as well as toys and clothes in its mammoth shopping centre.
