  • Family-friendly site two miles from Mundesley beach, with dogs welcome
  • A 15-minute drive from Cromer and half an hour to Wroxham Broad
  • Under 10 minutes’ walk from a village pub and playing field
Nosing around for a north Norfolk break that is well-based for countryside walks, crabbing, cruising The Broads and chilling at the beach? Try Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, a family-friendly site on the coast just two miles from Mundesley. To be precise, it’s just a 40-minute walk (or a five-minute drive) from its beach and Victorian seafront, where there are beach huts. The site is in a peaceful Norfolk village called Trunch. You might be quite familiar with the place by the end of your stay – and happily so – because it has a social club hosting live music and two beer festivals per year, as well as a welcoming pub with fodder, beer, good music and other events. As if that isn't enough already, the village also has countryside walks, a playing field and a 15th-century church. No need to leave furry family members behind at Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, as it's dog-friendly. Barbecues and firepits are also both welcome (just note that only firepits hired from Meadow View are permitted). You should have plenty of good tales for the firepit, with there being so many beaches nearby: Trimingham (10 minutes’ drive), Cromer (15 minutes) and Sheringham (25 minutes), for example. Walcott beach, 10 minutes' drive away, is a fine choice, with a café, ice cream parlour, fish and chips shop and a post office with a shop all along the seafront. In Mundesley, there are pubs, restaurants, cafés, takeaways, another social club, arcades, miniature golf, a petrol station and a supermarket – very handy indeed. Just remember that this is a rural location next to a working farm, so there are likely to be country smells and sounds at times.

Electric grass pitch

Liked We stayed here for the first time last year when we first started camping we are a couple in their mid twenties with a young daughter and we camped with our friends as well. We love staying here. The people who run the site are lovely and go above and beyond. For example we got burnt to a crisp one of the days we went to the beach and forgot after sun and they had some we could borrow. Last time we also forget something I can’t remember what but I do remember they gave us something. It’s just a very big field with blocks for toilets which I have to say are very clean. My only quib would be that the showers on their own are maybe a bit too hot and you’re unable to change the temperature but the shower in the woman’s block is lovely as you can change temperature but I also felt like I might of fallen through the floor. Might just be me being paranoid. Nothing to do at campsite but very close to Mundesley so able to go to the beach and there are things you can do around the campsite. There’s also a pub down the road, quite small so be warned. I’m not 100% sure if they had wifi. I can’t remember as I used my 4G but I did run out so if they don’t maybe that’s something they could look into

Disliked Singular showers

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very friendly and helpful hosts.
Loads of space, very quiet and peaceful.
Good location for the nearby coast and places of interest.
Good, clean facilities with showers and toilets.
We stayed an extra night as we liked it so much. Good value for money.
Mundesley has a great fish & chip shop by the Ship pub where I was able to get gluten free.
Our dog loved the beach.

Disliked The footpath into Mundesley was heavily overgrown with wheat making it impassable. Our walk into Mundesley was therefore entirely by road.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked We had a friendly welcome. We loved the huge field, so loads of space to run and play and plenty of speces between tents. Facilities were clean.

Disliked It was a windy weekend, so the field felt a bit exposed.

Liked Clean showers and loos with easy access to water and hits of fire pits.
Very accommodating when choosing a spot to set up.
A lovely pub within a few minutes walk and Mundesley beach (and pub!) a beautiful 50 minute walk.

Liked Loved everything. Big site, very clean toilets and friendly staff. My son burnt his leg on the fire pit while roasting marshmallows and everyone was so helpful and calm and helped us with medical treatment. Fresh clean water. Beautiful scenery. Local shops near by down the road.

Disliked Didn't dislike anything. Was an amazing campsite and will definitely return

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very nice owners! Helpful and always around when needed! The fire pits were amazing and we had one almost every night! The marshmallows were a cute touch! Toilets and showers were clean. There was everything you needed! Big field which we played rounders and different sports on!

Disliked There’s was only two toilets and one shower for girls and a gender neutral toilet and shower. This was fine as it was quiet most of the time but when it got busy over the weekend was slightly annoying. Not a deal breaker though as it was mostly quiet when we went!

Local attractions

When it comes to getting stuck into the north Norfolk coast, you might want to get a tick list going…there’s Overstrand beach and Walcott beach to see and crabbing on the pier in Cromer (all within 15 minutes' drive). Keep ticking them off: the lighthouse in Happisburgh (20 minutes), seal spotting at Blakeney Point (40 minutes) and Waxham (35 minutes) or sandy beaches at Sea Palling (half an hour) and Wells-next-the-Sea (55 minutes). The latter has a gorgeous fishing port running seal-watching trips. Inland’s just as excellent. There’s a generous handful of National Trust properties within driving distance, plus ways to get out onto The Broads in Wroxham (half an hour). You might want to board the Bure Valley Railway there or join The North Norfolk Steam Railway in Sheringham (25 minutes). For all you budding historians, Weybourne (half an hour) has the Muckleburgh Military Collection too. Family-friendly ventures are easily sourced, with various entertainments in North Walsham (10 minutes), treetop adventures at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (half an hour) and all the attractions in Great Yarmouth (50 minutes) like Pleasure Beach, Britannia Pier and Sea Life Great Yarmouth.
