  • Family-friendly site two miles from Mundesley beach, with dogs welcome
  • A 15-minute drive from Cromer and half an hour to Wroxham Broad
  • Under 10 minutes’ walk from a village pub and playing field
Nosing around for a north Norfolk break that is well-based for countryside walks, crabbing, cruising The Broads and chilling at the beach? Try Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, a family-friendly site on the coast just two miles from Mundesley. To be precise, it’s just a 40-minute walk (or a five-minute drive) from its beach and Victorian seafront, where there are beach huts. The site is in a peaceful Norfolk village called Trunch. You might be quite familiar with the place by the end of your stay – and happily so – because it has a social club hosting live music and two beer festivals per year, as well as a welcoming pub with fodder, beer, good music and other events. As if that isn't enough already, the village also has countryside walks, a playing field and a 15th-century church. No need to leave furry family members behind at Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, as it's dog-friendly. Barbecues and firepits are also both welcome (just note that only firepits hired from Meadow View are permitted). You should have plenty of good tales for the firepit, with there being so many beaches nearby: Trimingham (10 minutes’ drive), Cromer (15 minutes) and Sheringham (25 minutes), for example. Walcott beach, 10 minutes' drive away, is a fine choice, with a café, ice cream parlour, fish and chips shop and a post office with a shop all along the seafront. In Mundesley, there are pubs, restaurants, cafés, takeaways, another social club, arcades, miniature golf, a petrol station and a supermarket – very handy indeed. Just remember that this is a rural location next to a working farm, so there are likely to be country smells and sounds at times.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked There is a lot to like about this site, I’ll start with Christine, the site owner. Her attitude was fantastic, her communication was spot on, I asked an abundance of questions before we arrived and she was super prompt with a reply and very helpful. Her presence on the site throughout our stay was fantastic, not overpowering but always nearby if you needed her and was always very happy to help. We would return again based on her alone!

The site is laid out well. We had a non-electric pitch and had plenty of space. Which was lovely. We were probably the furthest corner of the site, and the walk to the facilities was no problem.

The facilities themselves were good, clean, never too busy and just what you needed.

The charging lockers were very handy and we used them for the duration of our stay. Bargain as well considering their convenience.

The location of the site was fantastic and we really enjoyed waking up to the views out across the fields.

If you’re due to stay soon, my only advice would be, take a decent hammer and even a claw hammer for your tent pegs. The ground is rock hard from 60 odd days without rain. I spent longer pulling pegs out of the ground than anything else when we left. Although you can buy drill in pegs on site.

We was able to watch the eclipse here during our stay, along with a wonderful meteor shower and to top it off we spotted deer in the field next to our tents which was wonderful

Very recommended and well happy with our stay.

We will be back.

Liked We loved this site!!! Christine is lovely and extremely helpful.
The site is well looked after, very spacious and has really clean toilets. The little touches are lovely.
The charging locker was a god send with 3 teenagers with their phones. I can’t recommend this site enough.
Thank you for the best week. Can’t wait to come back next year.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We have just come back from a 2 night stay (2 adults and 2 young kids). We honestly could not fault it. Loads of space, toilets and showers were very clean and even though its by the road and a working farm, it was surprisingly quiet. Christine was an absolute saint when our car wouldnt start for our journey home and couldnt havent been more helpful and accommodating. Amazing hosts and we will definitely be back.

Disliked Nothing to dislike we just wish we could have stayed longer!

Liked Toilets and showers were clean with hot water. Very basic site with electric pitches in a beautiful setting. Great fire pits reasonably priced logs and marshmallows. Christine was an impeccable host and happy to assist with any queries. We will be back!

Disliked The only thing I would have preferred a closed site as the main gate stays open.

Local attractions

When it comes to getting stuck into the north Norfolk coast, you might want to get a tick list going…there’s Overstrand beach and Walcott beach to see and crabbing on the pier in Cromer (all within 15 minutes' drive). Keep ticking them off: the lighthouse in Happisburgh (20 minutes), seal spotting at Blakeney Point (40 minutes) and Waxham (35 minutes) or sandy beaches at Sea Palling (half an hour) and Wells-next-the-Sea (55 minutes). The latter has a gorgeous fishing port running seal-watching trips. Inland’s just as excellent. There’s a generous handful of National Trust properties within driving distance, plus ways to get out onto The Broads in Wroxham (half an hour). You might want to board the Bure Valley Railway there or join The North Norfolk Steam Railway in Sheringham (25 minutes). For all you budding historians, Weybourne (half an hour) has the Muckleburgh Military Collection too. Family-friendly ventures are easily sourced, with various entertainments in North Walsham (10 minutes), treetop adventures at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (half an hour) and all the attractions in Great Yarmouth (50 minutes) like Pleasure Beach, Britannia Pier and Sea Life Great Yarmouth.
