Bigger than Switzerland! Bigger than Denmark! OK, we’ll stop excitedly listing which European countries France’s largest region the Midi-Pyrénées is bigger than, because we have a lot to fit in ici. As will you when camping in the Midi-Pyrénées: hold on to your chapeau.
Location first: the Midi-Pyrénées runs from the Pyrénées on the Spanish border to the rural hills of the upper Dordogne valley in its north, and has more landscapes and variety of scenery than you’d fit on a digital frame even in fast mode. Which, most happily, means many many things to do from any Midi-Pyrénées campsite for any flavour of Midi-Pyrénées camper: skiing, Pyrenees National Park and the pilgrimage town of Lourdes in the south; the limestone plateaux and prehistoric caves of Lot to the north, the historic city of Albi on the Tarn to the east, and sunflowers, Armagnac and space aplenty in really rural Gers out west.
And then Toulouse and the Cité de l'espace theme park, the cheese caves of Roquefort, climbing and canoeing in the Gorges du Tarn, and the village of the Knights Templar at La Couvertoirade… Le happy sigh.
