Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice friendly site with a pub a walkable distance away (15-20 mins). The helpful owners managed to lend me some ladders to get on the roof of the MH to get inside as we'd locked ourselves out!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Peter, thank you for your review, so glad I had the ladder, and so glad you had the small child 😁 and that everything worked out well for you. We do hope you come back and see us again .... Bring some spare keys 😁The Oak View Team

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The campground was very clean and quiet. Lots of open space for the children to play and a nice woodland walk to the edge of the park. The showers and toilets were also clean and plentiful, and I noticed there were laundry facilities as well (though we didn't use them).

Disliked: The toilets were quite a way away from the far pitches where we were located. The campground could have also benefitted from a small tuck shop or something.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you very much for taking time to leave us a review. We are pleased that you liked a lot of things about the park during your stay. If our customers make a note on their booking, they can request to be near to the toilets and if we have the space, we will do our best to honour this. We have also looked into the possibility of a shop before but we don't have the space and this is not something that we can do at this present time. We would love to see you again. The Oak View Team.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Very welcoming, very clean and tidy facilities with flat pitches.

Disliked: Always surprised when a site doesn’t have a freezer for ice blocks especially when the nearest big decent shop is in Maidstone.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, Joanne. Regarding the freezer, we do have one. If our customers come and ask, we are more than happy to put freezer blocks in for you. The Oak View Team.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Facilities, woodland walk

Disliked: Pitches quite close together

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for leaving us a lovely review. We are sorry that you found the pitches to be quite close together. Unfortunately, your stay coincided with the Kent County Show, our busiest time of the year and as always during this week, we were fully booked and extremely busy. As you may have noticed, there were markings on the ground on your pitch. This is where Sharon and myself measure and mark out the required legal amount of space and firebreaks per pitch and we re-do this every very busy period. We would love to see you again sometime, perhaps when we are not so busy.

Electric gravel and hardstanding pitch

Liked: Leafy site, excellent location for visiting places of interest in Kent

Disliked: Toilet and shower facilities were not always pristine. Issues with shower drainage

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review. We are pleased that you found most things to your liking but disappointed that you didn't find our showers to be "pristine". If you read back on our previous reviews you will see that this isn't a common problem but we do understand that occasionally the shower drains do get blocked. This is always just a build up of hair at busy times and as soon as it is reported, the problem is sorted immediately. Our cleaner does check the drains daily and the toilets and showers are cleaned religiously every day. They are then checked at regular intervals throughout the day. When we are very busy, they are done more than once a day. We hope that this does not put you off from coming back. The Oak View Team.

The best postcode to follow using a satnav is ME14 3HB as using the postcode takes you on a longer route. Heading from the M20 Junction 7, drive along the A249 to the top of Detling Hill. As you approach the top you will pass a layby and a sign for Bredhurst. Turn left along the road to Bredhurst; this is Scragged Oak Road. The park is 500 yards along the road on the left marked with a large green sign. Please do not turn up Pilgrims Way.

Local attractions

Oak View Holiday Park is in prime position to traverse the best of Kent's countryside, coast, castles and well-known gardens – with Essex and its coast easily accessible too just to the north. Plenty of pedalling and perambulating opportunities are around the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, such as the 153-mile route of the North Downs National Trail through from Farnham to Canterbury, passing the White Cliffs of Dover. This takes in the 119-mile Pilgrims' Way, the supposed route of Thomas Becket from Winchester to Canterbury Cathedral. Elsewhere in Kent, loads is on all year round in the 500 acres of parkland and formal gardens at lovely Leeds Castle (10 minutes’ drive), like free falconry displays, play areas, special events and making one's way intrepidly out of the castle maze. Also see Rochester Castle (20 minutes) on the east bank of the Medway for its 12th-century keep and stacks of historical info: the castle was sacked during the Peasants' Revolt, held for Henry III against the barons, and besieged (also because of barons) by bad King John. And of course, just next door is the Kent Showground, which hosts all sorts of events throughout the year (the most famed being the Kent County Show, which usually runs for three days in July).
