If you reckon a site with stunning views of the Cumbrian fells sounds like your kind of place, head over to family-friendly Ullswater Holiday Park. Sitting a half-hour walk from the shores of Ullswater (where guests can use Fair Field Marina or spend time canoeing, fishing and riding the famed Ullswater steamers), this option’s in a fab location for touring round the Lake District National Park. Kids can mess about in the half-acre playground at this well-equipped place, while adults have an ale at the licensed bar or a Farrer’s coffee in the café. Wifi is available (around the reception area and bar, not the whole site) and there's also a shop for essentials (including groceries and camping equipment) and a few supermarkets are 20 minutes’ drive away in the nearest town of Penrith. The capital of Cumbria in days of yore, this place has the 14th-century fortress to prove it... If loping from local village to local village seeing structures such as this sounds like an excellent option too, ride one of the Lake Ullswater steamers stopping at settlements such as Pooley Bridge and Glenridding along with the Aira Force falls. After you’ve set eyes on the whooshing water, other attractions nearby include those that combine architecture with lush landscapes – like Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, 10 minutes away, and Lowther Castle & Gardens (20 minutes). There's also the Rheged Centre Cinema, a heritage hub in an old quarry with a grass roof, gallery and 3D screen (15 minutes away). Please note that the games room and bar may not be available in the low season (check in advance for opening hours).

Our tent with the toilet block behind - 30 second walk

Very spacious couch, can confirm it's long enough and wide enough to sleep on.

Lovely little table, although we didn't sit at it as we were either eating out or sitting outside!

Nice kitchen area, microwave,fridge with v small freezer. cups, glasses, wine glasses provided

Loved this little bathroom, for a pod even the bathroom wasn't cramped.

Liked: Great infrastructure with play park, covered seating and food prep area, onsite chippy and of course bar/games room.

Top draw basically and right by Ullswater lake, took my boys sailing at Glenridding Sailing Centre and walked round nearby Aira Force to name a couple of good local excursions.

Liked: Campsite was lovely facilities were great and always clean also toilets/showers dotted around so never too busy and not far to walk. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Onsite fish and chips were also very yummy.

Disliked: The bar area was a little tired looking but was clean and tidy and again staff were great.

Liked: Location. Fully serviced pitch. Good shop. Nice reception.

Disliked: Hollow on pitch 57 so water gathered had to keep everything off the floor. Pine needles a nuisance.

Disliked: A noisy group, that disregarded the site rules about numbers and quiet hours.
they clearly all booked up separately and then met up on the site.

Liked: Good shower and washing facilities all around the site. Microwave, sheltered dining area was helpful. Staff in reception were friendly.

Disliked: Nothing was done about campers playing music so loudly it was affecting everyone around them.

Local attractions

The Lake District doesn’t skimp on swish sights and attractions, and many of the best things to see and do in the national park – from bushcraft and watersports to golf and tennis – are within easy driving distance of the site. For classic Cumbrian walks Hallin Fell is a 20-minute drive away and the market town of Keswick, where you can go from perusing a pencil museum to dancing around the megalithic Castlerigg Stone Circle, is reachable in 25 minutes. A bit south of the town of Penrith (20 minutes) are the prehistoric Mayburgh Henge and Norman Brougham Castle. Other well-known Lake District settlements are also within easy reach along winding roads, like to Windermere (45 minutes away) and Ambleside (50 minutes). And if you fancy a crack at cantering instead of sitting in the car? Horse riding can be had from stables within a 15-minute drive, while guests who prefer roving on a revving vehicle can squat upon a quad bike and set off into the local lands (25 minutes from the park).

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
At least one of the party members must be aged 25 or over.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Changes cannot be made once you have booked.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
Quiet hours must be respected between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m..
Radio, music and TV players must be kept at a low volume. Car doors and boots must be closed quietly.
The bar is open between 04/04 and 02/11.

Safety

Barbecues are permitted but must be raised off the ground and attended by an adult at all times.
Firearms are not permitted.
Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.
Open fires are prohibited.
Swimming in the lake is allowed.

Vehicles

Only one car is to be parked by the pitch. Extra vehicles must be parked in the designated area.
Units longer than 9 metres are not allowed.

Visitors

Visitors must leave the premises by 8 p.m..
Visitors must register at reception and pay their fee.
