General

  • Spacious family park with spectacular views of Lake District fells
  • Penrith a 20-minute drive and Lake Ullswater within a 30-minute walk
  • Marina, licensed bar with TV and a games room, shop and playground

If you reckon a site with its own lakeside harbour and views of the Cumbrian fells will float your boat, sail over to family-friendly Ullswater Holiday Park. Sitting a half an hour walk from Fair Field Marina and canoeing, fishing and rides on the famed Ullswater steamers this option’s in a fab location for touring round the Lake District National Park.

Kids can mess about in the half-acre playground at this well-equipped place, while adults have an ale at the licensed bar or a Farrer’s coffee in the café. Wifi is available (around the reception area and bar, not the whole site) and there's also a shop for essentials (including groceries and camping equipment) and a few supermarkets are 20 minutes’ drive away in the nearest town of Penrith. The capital of Cumbria in days of yore, this place has the 14th-century fortress to prove it...

If loping from local village to local village seeing structures such as this sounds like an excellent option too, ride one of the Lake Ullswater steamers stopping at settlements such as Pooley Bridge and Glenridding along with the Aira Force falls.

After you’ve set eyes on the whooshing water, other attractions nearby include those that combine architecture with lush landscapes – like the Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, 10 minutes away, and Lowther Castle & Gardens (20). There's also the Rheged Centre Cinema, a heritage hub in an old quarry with a grass roof, gallery and 3D screen (15 minutes away).

Absoloutely loved our stay here, we had to call prior to arriving due to traffic but the people in reception were so kind and helpful, and always friendly giving advice and suggestions of where to go on days out.
the facilities, were clean, with pleanty of showers, and a laundry which we used and found very helpful as we did get wet and muddy a couple of days.
a great park for the kids to play in, and a nice club house which was mostly quiet and friendly, with a great games room for the kids.
much fun had here we will definately return!

    Disliked:

the shop has everything you need but quickly ran out of meat, and bread. the nearest supermarket is a 20 min drive away as well as a cash machine, you must remember cash or you will be driving as noone can give cash back in the stores close to the lake.

Very clean facilities- easy check in - everything on site that we needed - just wish we could of had an evening meal on site - but bar drinks and club house for kids were all good

    Disliked:

Went down to the toilet at about 6/6.30 ish in the morning and the toilets and shower room were in the process of being cleaned, and although it clearly states that there is male attendants, which is totally fine with me, I felt quite uncomfortable that there were 4 or so men in there and not one of them spoke to me when I said morning, sorry to get in the way and then thank you - not a word or anything from any of them - I felt this was a little odd and could of been very intimidating for maybe a youngster

Local attractions

The Lake District doesn’t skimp on swish sights and attractions, and many of the best things to see and do in this national park – from bushcraft and watersports to golf and tennis – are within easy driving distance of the site.

For classic Cumbrian walks Hallin Fell is a 20-minute drive away and the market town of Keswick, where you can go from perusing a pencil museum to dancing around the megalithic Castlerigg Stone Circle, is reachable in 25 minutes. A bit south of the town of Penrith (20 minutes) are the prehistoric Mayburgh Henge and Norman Brougham Castle.

Other well-known Lake District settlements are also within easy reach along winding roads, like to Windermere (45 minutes away) and Ambleside (50 minutes).

And if you fancy a crack at cantering instead of sitting in the car? Horse riding can be had from stables within a 15-minute drive, while guests who prefer roving on a revving vehicle can squat upon a quad bike and set off into the local lands (25 minutes from the park).

Must see

  • Dalemain Historic House & Gardens (3.4 miles)
