  • Three fishing lakes, on-site café and its own reindeer herd
  • Easy access to Chester Zoo and Delamere Forest

Reindeer! In Cheshire! You'll hold Chester site Big Foot Glamping and Camping At Tarvin Sands Fishery deer to your little holiday heart – and here there be fishing too.

But Rudolph and pals first... Big Foot is home to a herd of UK born and raised reindeer, a right friendly bunch who you should be able to see being fed and exercised when they're out and about. They're all part of the Tarvin Sands Reindeer Centre and Fishery, where there's also an information hut, a gift shop, picnic areas, gardens and other animals including kingfishers, water voles and greylag geese.

And now the fishing. Three coarse fishing lakes are on the site, crammed with 30lb fish including carp, bream, roach, tench, chub, perch and rudd; if you want to get competitive, open comps are held every Tuesday and Saturday.

Big Foot is set over 25 acres of Cheshire countryside, with loads of room for kids to play and run around. It has an excellently-kept facilities block with free hot showers and toilets, a washing-up hut and a parent and baby washroom. There's also a café on site, serving hot and cold food from sarnies to full-on fry-ups.

Please note that the site operates a locked-gate policy from 8pm to 8am daily, to ensure the safety of resident reindeer and any visiting children. Access on/off site by foot is available 24 hours a day.

This was a great campsite, my husband and I had asked for a pitch next to my sister and children, which was given. In fact they could not do enough for us, everybody was very friendly. The facility's, I thought were better than most and kept very clean. We had a grass tent pitch no electric, the pitch was very spacious which meant even though it was bank holiday week end we didn't feel crowded, and very well maintained. Husband loved the fishing kids loved the reindeer. Will defiantly visit again next summer.

From the manager...

Pitchup.com booking date/time/name: JFQ09YV3: 2019-08-23 to 2019-08-25 "Julie Brooks" Confirmed

Thank you for your wonderful comments Julie, as your ridiculous comments sit between numerous 10 out or 10 reviews, we feel that as you've already made a fool of yourself by writing those 4 unsubstantiated words, we do not really need to comment, but, we will..

You stayed an extra night, strange as you were in such a terrible place

You also left owing us £40, we were kind enough to allow you to stay on the promise you would settle your bill before you left, which both you and your husband were fully aware of!!! You also came back looking for the keys you lost (maybe they don't like your attitude either) and you still didn't settle your bill.

We hope you have a lovely day.

Having comfy made up beds, welcome basket, two power socket plus 2 usb slots, free charcoal and logs plus BBQ utensils. Spotlessly clean. Coloured lights nice touch. You also get your own little personal area with a bench, brolley, BBQ and firepit. Nice clean showers and toilets. Staff stay on grounds 24/7 always there if need anything and were lovely and friendly nothing was too much trouble. No dogs allowed meaning my children can run around without worrying about dogs off leads. Loved seeing the reindeers and walking around the lake and visiting the cafe for breakfast. Was a really lovely break.

    Disliked:

People plugging large electronic high voltage items in their pods meaning electricity trips out for all users. This was quickly rectified by staff though. I also didn't like how cars can be left by pitches and pods after unpacking, we had three cars parked outside our pod most weekend leaving us looking at their vehicles only and couldn't see the children when they were playing behind their cars on the field. Also when cars come and go you have to keep a good eye on little children running around. There is a good size car park park onsite so I think once you unpack you should have to park on the carpark and only bring back up on field when loading back up. This only bothered me as I had young children and probably other people don't mind this. The showers also go very cold in the morning due to lots of use but are hot at night (best to shower kids then) but are push button so you have to keep pushing them meaning you get soaked when trying to shower your little ones. Very close to main road and did hear lots of traffic noise but you tend to zone out from it after a while.

A very warm and friendly welcome, staff safety conscious in respect of the children (warned us about the open water and closed the site to vehicles 8pm-8am, the green area in the centre was purely for play) and helpful with site and local information.
Quiet site, road noise was minimal.
We received a lovely welcome gift with drinks and goodies, plus a starter box of fire wood and coal. My recommendation is take a small axe if you like to have a fire going. The logs were a generous size and we quickly ran out of kindling, an axe would have been handy.
Our pod was warm and toasty at night and the beds were very comfortable.

    Disliked:

I wouldn't say we disliked anything but I would add that the shower and toilet and washing up facilities were quite basic and we were fortunate to be there at a quiet point in the week, I imagine only 2 showers in the ladies might get busy if the site were full.
Our pod could do with a decent sweep out under the beds.
