General

  • Set in 25 acres of Cheshire countryside
  • Three fishing lakes, on-site café and its own reindeer herd
  • Easy access to Chester Zoo and Delamere Forest

Reindeer! In Cheshire! You'll hold Chester site Big Foot Glamping and Camping At Tarvin Sands deer to your little holiday heart – and here there be fishing too.

But Rudolph and pals first... Big Foot is home to a herd of UK born and raised reindeer, a right friendly bunch who you should be able to see being fed and exercised when they're out and about. They're all part of the Tarvin Sands Reindeer Centre and Fishery, where there's also an information hut, a gift shop, picnic areas, gardens and other animals including kingfishers, water voles and greylag geese.

And now the fishing. Three coarse fishing lakes are on the site, crammed with 30lb fish including carp, bream, roach, tench, chub, perch and rudd; if you want to get competitive, open comps are held every Tuesday and Saturday.

Big Foot is set over 25 acres of Cheshire countryside, with loads of room for kids to play and run around. It has an excellently-kept facilities block with free hot showers and toilets, a washing-up hut and a parent and baby washroom. There's also a café on site, serving hot and cold food from sarnies to full-on fryups.

Just come back from a brilliant stay. Great fishing for my son. Good sized pitches with picnic tables, and flagstones for raised barbecues. Site wasn’t overcrowded and has a lovely big field in the middle for the kids to play in. Owners and staff very friendly and helpful, gave us loads of help information and advice and even took time out to show us the reindeer. As mentioned in other reviews there is some traffic noise being close to the road but really didn’t bother us. Thank you for a great weekend, we will be back soon!

The people who ran the place were fantastic, friendly, helpful and informative (they gave us directions to the best pub (George & Dragon) and to Chester Zoo. The shower block was scrupulously clean and small hand towels and soap were provided There was also a cafe which we didn't actually use but looked very nice. When we left on the way to the zoo there were a lot of people there (obviously the food was pretty good!)

    Disliked:

We knew the gate was closed at 8pm and that a stile was available, but it was pretty overgrown with bushes which had prickles! We also knew the site was on the A54, but hadn't reckoned on the constant noise of traffic which continued all night. There was also a lack of shade which is pretty crucial when you are camping otherwise you are woken by the light at about 5 a.m. and the tent will get extremely hot.

Liverpool, Manchester and north Wales are all within a short drive.

It's a smashing site for kids too, as it's close to famed family attractions like Chester Zoo as well as the kid-friendly fare in nearby Chester: try the Chester ghost hunter trail, the miniature railway at Grosvenor Park and the pools and flumes at Northgate Arena.

The Big Foot team also reckons you should take a look at Blakemere Craft village, the farm animals, play areas and tasty treats of Chester's The Ice Cream Farm, and family adventure play park the Crocky Trail.
